e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Hello Orbit.....goodbye Triton!

I am looking into returning my Triton for a Orbit Microlader V6.2 or V6.3 Charger.

I have read reports on how well the Orbit charges and probably will be buying one in the future to replace my Triton. Great Planes doesn't seem to be doing anything to correct its problems...so I have no choice.

Yes I will pay at least $100 more but it is worth it. Too bad its made in Germany and not the USA.

For Info check out:

www.orbitronic.de/

Any Orbit users out there???

You should check out the Schulze line of chargers. They are a better bang for the buck and have a much better track record. Ive seen a number of Orbits go bad over time and getting them repaired takes up to 6 months!!! The Schulze chargers work every bit as well and are turned around fast. You can have repairs done is the US at the distributor:

http://www.rc-direct.com

Ive used both the Orbit and Schulze and the Schulze is by far the best value around!

I like my Orbit Pro, and it can now be repaired if needed in the states I believe, Radical RC I thought is an authorized repair center in the states.

Promise us you won't post over and over again about how bad the Orbit is if you don't like it.

Thanks,

Take a good look at some of the feedback on the Orbit on ezonemag.com. I've never owned an Orbit (although I did come close to buying one at one time) so I can't comment on it.

However, I recently purchased a Schulze isl 6-636+RS and I'm putting it through it's paces right now. It's too new for me to comment on now...I just fired it up yesterday....

New charger status info.......

If the charger doesn't perform the way it should you can bet I will "Whine" and "Post over and over" until either I dump it or the manufacturer corrects it!

If you don't like my posts then just ignore them and don' t bother reading them.

Some people are just not intelligent enough to know if something they use is working properly or not. The manufacturers use these people to justify that their product has no shortcomings.

Have a NICE weekend guys!

rickc, I just started using the software connected to my charger a few minutes ago, however, I've been poking around with it for a little while. It's all english, but there appears to be German word here and there.

You can download a demo of the software from the Schulze webiste:

http://www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.com/index_uk.htm

Click on software and then WinSoft. The demo even includes some data files that you can load and view.

You might want to read my posts again regarding the battery you were trying to charge with your Triton. I bent over backwards trying to help you.

And maybe consider thanking people for trying to help instead of insulting them.

Sheesh.

well

I got an Orbit Microlader Pro 6.2 for the lipo batteries in my Bionic.

I must say, I was rather impressed. However, I did in fact switch over all of my charging needs to the Orbit.

The Orbit replaced the "wall warts" I was using for my glow ignitors, 12 volt batteries, receiver batteries, transmitter battery pack, etc...

I was so pleased, I got two chargers total so I can have both packs for the Bionic charging at the same time, or so I can charge two different packs at once.

So far, the Orbit has served extremely well. Although I must admit, I was attracted to the "PC interface" feature, truth be told I haven't used it yet. Both of the chargers complained about one rather expensive Futaba 9Z transmitter pack. I figured that since they both complained, I should probably toss the pack and simply buy a new one rather than take a chance.

If the Orbit gives me any problems, I won't hesitate to get an additional Shulze. This would let me charge three packs at once. Schulze has a great reputation and I'm sure the charger won't let me down. If the Schulze does prove itself to be sufficiently superior to the Orbit, I'll be sure to retire the Orbits and replace them with an array of Shulze chargers powered by a high capacity filtered 12V power supply.

With the Orbit, "Reflex" mode will often charge batteries that are rejected by the "Easy" mode.

Was the diode removed in the 9Z battery pack that was giving you trouble? Most chargers are not going to work correctly until the diode is removed. Here's a link on what needs to be done.

yeah

I have these plugs that go into the pins of the Tx pack that bypass the diode, and yes I used them thanks.

Good idea with the Reflex mode, I'll give that a shot.

I've put my receivers on lithium polymer, I wish I could do the same for the Tx pack. Then I can say goodbye to nickel cadmium forever.

That brings up a good question:

Why can't I run my transmitter with something other than nicad batteries? I'd like to equip it with a NiMH pack. Does anyone know if this works? (admittedly posted by an electronics dummy).

Thanks,
Patrick

sure. not a problem.

my 9Z has a NiMH pack and DavidH
uses Duralite Lithium cells in his 9Z

So why isn't JR, for example, making them available? I hate nicads, it's a relationship that has developed over nearly three decades of intermittent frustration.

I've never had any reason to dislike my NiMH cells, with the exception of charge dissipation when left to sit for a while, something inherent in the design.

I guess I just feel that nicads are a lot like Chevy Corvairs, unique in their day and now thoroughly outdated. Time to move on to better things...

Patrick

There must be years of nicad backlogs in supply warehouses around the world, so I guess they just gotta dump the old goods before they invest in delivery of better goods.

Z, where did you get the 9z NiMH pack from?

carabiner, in my JR PCM9X and 3810 transmitters I run the Sanyo 2100 NiMh batteries in them. I can use my transmitter for 4-5 days without recharging it. So there are other battery companies making batteries to replace the old NiCD ones that come in JR transmitters.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Hello Saint728,

Those Tx NiMH packs sound like the best way to go, so two questions.

1. What capacity rating are they?

and

2. Where did you get them? I see you're in Aussieville so I'd have to source a N.A. supplier.

Cheers,
Pat
