just wondering if anyone is contemplating or is involved with this development .. I've been to various sites and only a few pics , I'm very much interested .. anyone have info or comments on this ?

given you can use just about any jet motor , sophia, jpx, amt , *cats , my question is how to couple a gearbox from the main axle to the main rotor gear .. no one really explains this little secret . uhm wonder why?

this pic is probibly a dupe but a reference point .. I see a jet motor but wheres the gearbox ?? lets hear from ya!

[BREAK]

this pic really just my juices flowing .. new frames for jets ..

It's pretty obvious.

There isn't one.

The turbine exhaust drives an impeller (under the shroud)
which turns a reduction gear setup to drive the main white
gear.

Although I think some is/did come out w/ a very small turboshaft
type engine.

Gearbox

Hi,

This one I didn't know. JetCat has a jet powered heli also. They used a twin belt reduction (I guess 1:10) and a gear reduction.

In your picture I can see a "black box" under the maingear. But what it is and how it works: I don't know.

The truth is that even the smallest miniature turbine (MW54) has an abundance of power and as a result extracting sufficient power is not a problem. The "Hot" gas flow at power represents about 25 hp or so. To recover 3-5 hp is not that difficult. The real problem is the rate of fuel consumption which requires several Quarts (Liters) for sufficient flight time. The larger the Low Pressure Turbine is, the slower it turns so If you get it down to about 50K or so the reduction can be a typical gear or toothed belt. The "direct drive" shown in the second picture is another way to do it and both schemes are likly to be developed. In full scale the "free" turbine is the way to go.
