| I've never heard of grounding the engine to the RX, and I thought the whole idea was to isolate them from each other. I've never done it on mine and had no problems (except vibration killing servos when the engine was not tuned right). I think you will find that the glitching will stop when you disconnect this. I could be wrong, bit this sounds like a bad thing. I recommend you give Ron Lund a call at www.ronlund.com (Rick's heli) he would know if this is appropriate or what, and will be glad to set you straight. Also, Bill Meador seems to be the current expert on smooth running gassers lately, not sure of his email address, but he is always willing to give good advice.
The standard plug that comes with the Zenoah engines is a Champion RCJ4. The R means resistor. Many like the BRM7A plug (I forget the MFR, I use 'em in y motorcycle, considered the best brand for that).
Myself I have standardized on the Bosch resistor plug and matching Bosch cap (Tight fit). This is vario's standard, is the highest quality and does not have the screw on tip (can come loose and glitch). Get a quote on the Bosch plug and Bosch cap and I can send you one of each brand new at 20% off what they quote you, padded envelope snail mail. You might be able to find a price in an online Vario catalog. I'll go $20 for the pair shipped to ya (unless my number is off). I'm at 310-560-4670, currently on disability and out of work and am clearing out excess redundant stuff.
Good luck,
Stet
