Brett,

I have been using the Alpha 4 to charge NiMh for some time now. It works but be prepared to wait. The Alpha 4 only charges at 1 amp max. For fast field charging it's not really the best.

I have been charging 2700 mah and 3000 mah NiMh for my receiver batteries. It just takes a while, overnight. I like it because it's less likely to be a fire hazard charging slower, IMO.

I also bought a Triton. This works great but the only thing I don't like about it is you can't charge more than one battery unless you connect them. I like using both chargers, I like the Alpha because it has 4 ports so I can charge a lot of stuff overnight. I like the Triton because of the higher amps and it can do Li-ion, Li-polys, NiMh, NiCd, and lead acid.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Alpha 4

Agree with cdrking I use the Alpha 4 at home...except I bought the supernaova 250 for field use......If I was going the Li-poly route, I would just get a dedicated Li-poly charger.....Nimh in the 2700-3000 ma range have been working fine for me with 5-6 flights...

I love my Alpha, but as is stated above, it's not really a good field charger. I typically don't field charge my batteries since I'm usually done flying by the time my batteries are discharged.

You could always get two battery packs and have one charging while you are flying. You wouldn't need a super fast field charger that way... of course you might need a bigger car battery!

On another forum (RCU), there is a new charger out that looks promising. It's the Miniron Mobile. The guy who's selling it is Aerographixs. It's a 2amp max charger with 5 ports and the specs say it charges all battery types. I think the price was around $300.
