| the reasoning behind the waiver process is to ensure safety. Turbine helicopters can cary ariund a galon of fuel on board, plu propane/butane ... concider the fact the the exhaust is in up to the 1000F range, and you have a fun combination... The waiver ensures that someone who flies the turbine can 1: operate the turbine safely, 2: be avble to fly the helicopter safely in flight, as well as in an emergency situation.
Now if you talk about RC turbine jets, the waiver is even more important ... because now the 1 gal of fuel is traveling at possible speeds of around 200 mph. If you ever see one of these crash, it looks like a load of napalm ! no kiding! if the AMA is going to insure you, they have to know, that you know what you are doing ...
if anyone can't manage to get a waiver because their flying is not up to par, then they should not be thnking of flying a turbine ...
