Hey,

Here is a problem that is not new, I was just wondering how others solve it?

I belong to 3 local clubs and it seems like the same people do all the work, do all the mowing, and take care of all the fun flys.

What's the best method anyone has found to get their fellow club members to help out and get involved?

Heck, I belong to one club with 40+ members that we only see once a year.

Thanks,

Ken

Welcome to the wonderful world of apathy.

This is very typical....It's usually the new guys that are eager to help out, they've been learning and respect the help they've gotten, and give back to the club.

Then you have the "old guard" who "did their time" and don't do anything except whine when the work isn't done so they can fly.

As a President Emeritus, I know how this goes. You've got to find a way to motivate them...stir the pot, shake things up. It's usually a new administration that is necessary to get things reinvigorated.

I've got a few ideas for you; if you're interested, PM me.

You can't solve it. It's the 10/90 rule. 10% of the workers do 90% of the work. Just try and get more new motivated members involved, and the odds are 10% will be the helping type. It's the same for car clubs, gun clubs or any organization, so don't think it's limited to the RC world.

You might try having stepped dues, where if members work a certain number of hours, they would get free dues. I'm not sure that would work in our hobby though!

Don't forget you also got the ones that bitch and complain about nobody helping out but............................when you offer to help you get flat out bebuffed. They just don't seem to want to get off the riding mower because they are having way too much fun. It doesn't take long to just say the heck with it and simply don't offer anymore or when they do finally ask for help your fed up of your offers to help being turned down that you say to yourself "F it." That is not the case at my heli club but it pretty much sums up the situation at my airplane club.

I lost my infamous tag line.
