Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > R60 "wobbles"

Let's get this straight first, this is a wobble , NOT a vibration.
Occasionally the heli will seem to wobble underneath the rotor disk, as if the heli were a pendulum (sp?) hanging from a wire.

I recently installed the O-ring upgrade from Rick's, and it made the heli feel much more solid overall, but it only reduced the wobble.

This may be unrelated but the heli seems pitchy in FFF as well.
Have any of you had this problem?
I am flying 680mm carbon blades.
All of the bearings in the blade grips seem to be in good condition and operate very freely.
The mainshaft bearings are smooth as well.
Thanks,
Jerry

Main rotor speed too low.....Main blade bolts loose and or tightened uneven. Blade bolts should be tight enough so the blades cannot be folded easily.

The Raptor 60 is tail heavy out of the box,I made an extention on the radio tray that go out to just before the canopy.Mount the battery as far forward as possible. This helped out tremedously with the pitchy FF.Jason Kalbfleisch

r60 wobble

if this is a early kit , I would suspect that the rotor hub is drilled for the main shaft wrong . if the main shaft was bent it would be all the time. also ,are the paddels alaigned that will do it . and blade bolt adjustment, also grease the o-rings,and also the thrust bearings and check if the right thrust washer is further out (larger)

I like the term "dance" I think low rotor speed is the main cause

The pitchiness you are experiencing is a result of a misalignment of the paddles. The wobble or 'dance' will likely go away with a higher headspeed. It is a product of the dampening and if you have the time and patience, you can adjust the damening by changining orings and shims to "tune the suspesion" to your particular flying style.

Paddles

What kind of paddles do yu have? I found the real light KSJ's make it pitchy AND contributed to the wobble. Threw some flybar weights on there and that seemed to fix the problem.

I use V-paddles with no weight. They are excellent paddles that give great stability yet extreme authority without the pitchiness of the "hotdog" paddles. I am currnetly running without weights. I have also used MA Pro II paddles without weight with similar results.

My Concept 60 SRII really "danced" with the "V" paddles I had to add just a touch of weight and rase the head speed to about 1800 then they were great.

I had the same problem. My wobbled no matter what I would do. What other heli have you seen wobble. I think its going to be a pissing match in here. Much like the r30 woofing problem!

Check your tension on the blade bolts. When holding the chopper on its side the blad should barelly sit still in the blade holder.
And if you are using a to long flybar you can get the wobbling effect at low head speeds.
What kind of blades are you running?

I had a fore and aft wobble on decent. While I was at Birmingham fun fly I asked a few folks about it including CY. They all seem to think it was low head speed. When I got back I uped the head speed and they went away.

wobble

Gbouten,
This seems to be the same wobble that you described, and I also thought it was headspeed, but the headspeed seems pretty high to be doing that. I do not have a tach so I am not sure but I would estimate it to have been turning between 1700 and 1800. I will have to get my
GV-1 on it so I can be sure. I have not had a chanc to fly since Saturday, but will mess with it this weekend.

I have the tension on the blades set pretty tight, they stay in place if I tip the heli and shake it up and down aggressively. Could this be causing a problem?
I have always suscribed to the theory that if the blades are tight, a boomstrike is less likely when doing autos (which I have not done yet with this bird).

I am flying the stock paddles and MS680 CF blades. I am also using the stock flybar.

If the head where an early one that is drilled off-center, wouldn't that cause a constant vibration instead of an intermittent wobble?
I am also reasonably certain that this is a V1.

I have checked the CG and it does seem to be a little rearward, but not very far, I would estimate it to be about 1/2" aft of the main shaft.

Thanks,
Jerry

My wobble happen only on decent and while transition to a hover. Just play with it by bringing it up a bit in your mide range settings and see what happens. I was told that the other thing is worn out dampeners, but mine were brand new. I don't think its a CG problem at all. My 30 also would do that but only when I would decend through its own prop wash.. or blade wash as the case may be. As for the V1 head I have heard that that could be a problem.
