Which is better for the beginner. R50 or R60. Is the R60 worth the extra cost?

which is better?

I think the 50 is the bargain. Especially for a beginner. The bigger ships do fly better and all but are much more costly to fly and rebuild plus they are a littlle more intimidating than the smaller ones.

The raptor 50 is a fine ship and is very cost effective and in some cases out flies the 60, but the 60 does hover better with fat 680's on them.

I saw that Cyberheli now sells the R50 with metal blade grips... yummers!

Agree with Raptor - go with the 50 but you might want to limit the throttle curve otherwise it will be a bit twitchy for learning. After your first crash you might think about putting 30 blades and tailboom on for awhile as well as they are much cheaper and easier to get hold of.

I would have to agree with topdog. Since the 50 just came out you can get some really good deals on a 30 right now. The crash kit will be less than the 50 or 60 crash kit and you can always upgrade later. Plus, since you will spend alot of time hovering, the 50 will do you no better than the 30, just cost more in fuel. Stick with the 30 and buy one model transmitter better than you had planned. That will do you more good in the long run.

Does the .60 drink more fuel than the .30? I'm thinking about just getting the .60 and putting my tax refund to some good use.

Sure, it drinks more fuel.

Is someone saying a Raptor 60 is cheaper to maintain than a 50? How is that possible? The 50 uses 99% Raptor 30 parts.

I know the parts are going to be more for the .60, was just wondering how much a difference on fuel between the .50 and .60.

50 is very nice but to start out 30 is best. Fuel consumption 30 less 50 more 60 evenmore. The bigger engine the more fuel used

As far as fuel usage here's what I got. I could fly my R30 much longer than my 50. Not sure about the 60. With the factory tanks in each one (30 tank in 30, 50 tank in 50) I could fly my 30 until my 10 minute timer went off and still see fuel enough to fly around some more (1/4 tank left?). On my 50 I did not time it yet, but it is no where near the time I got on my 30. I have heard some one else say the 50 with the 50 tank is gone in about 10 minutes. I would say that's about right.

Also, my OS32 sipped fuel, my OS50 sucked it dry fast! I had 1/2 gallon when I got to the field and I think I got about 5-6 flights on my 50 and left with an empty gallon jug.

I'm buying a 50 as soon as I find someone to buy my Nexus!proving harder than I thought!
But I talked with a lot of guys and am buying the 50 cos parts are cheap and others fly it so they can help me get the optimum setup out of it.

Raptor 50

The Raptor 50 and 30 are the same except for a few modifications. As far as crash parts go, they are almost identical. The blades are the biggest difference, and the 600mm woodies are only $26. The booms cost the same, the frames are the same, skids are the same, etc...

The 50 is better because it will not need to be upgraded until (and if) you decide to go with a 60. The only problem with the 50 is the fuel consumption. Aside from that, there are no drawbacks. As stated before, the crash costs between the 30 and the 50 are within a few dollars. This is NOT the case with a 60. The 60 will cost more in all respects.

Plus the 50 kit only costs $25 more than the 30 kit. The engine will cost about $50 more. Well worth it.

Raptor 50

MY PV0119 330cc tank is done in 10 minutes. This is with the OS50, my 32 was much better on fuel. However if I was concerned about fuel cost I wouldn't be into rc helis at all. I value FPG (fun per gallon) more that MPG. The smile on my face the 50 gives me is well worth the extra fuel consumption.

I got that from TopDawg saying this:
"is this gonna be the 1st heli ever? Raptor 30. Crash cost is low. Crash cost is low on raptor 60 as well. Raptor 50 is for some but not all."

He implies that a Raptor 60 costs less to crash than a 50.

I have a 50 and a 60 rappy.
Take 50 and you wil not be afraid to try something new, because of the low part cost.
They fly super with the stock TT50 engine, just take fiber blades for other than hovering.

I have a R50 with a Webra 52AAR engine. I get around 14-15 mins from the standard 50 tank and the engine is running very rich.

I think that a R30 is a better option for a new guy, the R50 is just way over powered. On my R50 I have the top end throttle @ 76% pulling +/- 10 pitch and it still over speeds slightly.

going with R50 here

im going with the rap 50 and im new to this.
mt reasoning is because with the bigger blades it should auto better than a 30?
as for fuel i dont mind the 50 running out in 10 mins. being new after that your nerves are shot anyways
