Gasser Model RC Helicopters > How Hot is Hot?

I've got a Bergen Gas, and I beleive I have as rich as possible w/o it sputtering or spitting. The problem is that the white silicone thingie between the pipe and ths rear mounted SS header doesn't last long. It gets hot and brittle. So I bought some thick stuff from the LHS that is made for R/C headers. It only lasted one flight B4 melting.. Is this normal? Or is it too hot?

Thanks in Advance,

Brant

I ended up having to replace that white Nylon? coupler twice each flying season. Not that it's difficult to do, but usually happened at a funfly@#*&$#@....

If you're only getting a few flights, something may be too hot.

How is the engine running? does it feel or sound hot of lean?

Gassers do run hotter than glow engines in the exhaust, so the coupler you bought at the lhs may not be prescribed for gassers exhaust.

Same problem like you with the all type of silicon tubes. I changed to a metallic one. End of the problem

Xcell gas muffler uses a different coupler?

Hey guys:

I have the Xcell gasser with the MinAir rear can muffler. I bought that muffler about 850 flights ago and it is STILL the original coupler! Its some white teflon tubing piece and it holds up forever. Maybe you need to get one of those couplers from MinAir and then your problems will be solved?

Gassers are the BEST!! Enjoy!

The MA Coupler

The MA coupler is the one I'm using. It will last maybe one gallon. I adjusted the high and low per Billme, richened them up (individually) to where it starts to sputter them back it off a tad. The heli runs great and I don't think it is all that hot.

Thanks,

WOW, you mean the coupler like the white one in this picture?...

It hadn't even accured to me that it could wear out. Mine looks new after a year of flying hard carrying camera equiment.

Make sure the header and pipe are in good alignment. If the coupler needs to be stressed to put it on, it won't last long. The more relaxed it is when installed the longer it will last.

Life's a journey, NOT a destination.

One more suggestion

Oh yeah, you may already know this but make sure the GAP between the header and the muffler is as small as possible but still not touching. By that I mean it should be around 1/16".

If the gap is too large, you can burn it up that way.

Hum.....................

Yes daggit thats the one. I don't have the heli in front of me at this moment, but I know the muffler and the header are alittle miss aligned and has a fair size gap between the two. I can't bend the muffler to adjust these problems, it's already cracked twice where the muffler tube part goes into the muffler, and have had to get it welded-up twice.
(which is probably due to the missalignment...duh!)

well mine is straight but I do recall the installation was a booger and required "carefully creative" application of force.
