Here's the deal, I stumbled into a low cost ($.00) ARF. It's called a prelude 20 (whatever that is) and has never been flown (or even set up). It has a KB engine in it of unknown size (maybe a .20). It has a wing span of 34" and has full span ailerons and even nose wheel steering. My flying buddy (simi34103) Provided a set of 9201 servos (should do it ) and a FM receiver. He and I are going to teach ourselves to fly it this weekend (neither of us has ever flown a Plank) so it should be a good test of our superior skills

I'll provide the required pictures and video as we progress.

Should be fun; if the engine runs.

K&B really stands for "Kaput&Blown"...

Flying it will be no problem. LANDING it (in one piece) will test your "superior skill"...

Planks are a hoot; I always have at least one when I go flying. I even built a Sig Wonder (small, hand-launched model with an OS .15) for use at one cramped flying spot I sometimes visit.

Up high

Test the stall characteristics way up high early
in your first flight. If it stalls with a soft nose
pushover, you won't have to worry about the
landing so much.

Other than that, gas it on take off, throttle back
to a comfortable cruise speed and have fun until
your first landing

Your in for a blast, I wish I could be there to see that flight.
If you have a Realflight simulator set it on "150% realtime" and use the
Special 40 stunt plane. This will increase your reflex/reaction time on rolls and landings. Get the plane high right after takeoff. This is so you can adjust the trim out on her.
Your center of gravity (CG) should be nose heavy (about 20% from the leading edge). That would be 2" back from the leading edge on a 10" wing chord. This will make your plane stable in flight, but keep the airspeed up on final. I wish you the best of luck.

On take off get lots of speed, after lift off try to avoid climbing at a steep angle, unless you have unlimited power.... . Once you do lift off....lower the nose slightly to build and maintain airspeed........Have fun!!!

Well, I got it all rigged out last night. I fueled it up and it fired right up, I ran a tank through it to see if anything would fall off. so far so good

Run it to get it warmed up; then have your buddy hold the tx while you hold the airplane. Holding the airplane straight and level, go to full throttle. Let it run there for about 10 seconds, then point the plane straight up.

This is a quick'n'dirty mixture check. If the engine sags, it is too lean. This test simulates the prop "unloading" once the plane is flying on the wing; there will be a definite rpm increase, and sometimes this is just enough to make the engine lean out and quit. Hence, the caveat to always run your engine a few clicks on the rich side.

Few things are worse than engine failure right after the model has gotten airborne.

Yes, I did that, I have noticed this is evidently a "requirement" as I see "everyone" doing it There is very little change at full throttle, Nose up is speeds up just slightly and nose down is gets a little rich but will even idle in all orientations. I am using my "dreaded" WC 15 helimix in it

My first real rc plane

I saved and saved to buy one of those back in the day... It never flew to good. I sucked at the time as well, but good luck with it.
Beautiful plumage...

What a memory It was put on hold as Scott had other duties this week end. Next weekend for sure. (after all for this sort of thing a videographer is required) .
