draganflyer Heliman Location: Calgary, Alberta
| Hi,
I'm a brand new heli owner, pilot wanna-be and I very much want to shoot some aerial video.
I have a Draganflyer IV (Li-poly batteries, full carbon frameset), and the 2.4 Ghz camera set-up.
First of all, let me say that with admittedly nothing to compare it to, I am impressed nine ways from Sunday with the Draganflyer IV. Average flight times (with the camera operating) is 20 minutes, performance is great, and the learning curve astounds me. I picked mine up directly from the factory, and got a 10 minute flight lesson from the inventor. after that, less than 3 hours of solo stick time and I had my first stable hover, about 10 hours total stick time so far, and I'm feeling pretty confident with most manouvers...I even did a bit of nose-in work in the last couple of hours. It handles light winds much better than I expected it would, and I'm having a blast with it.
Since there's obviously a HUGE amount of knowledge and talent here, I've got a couple of questions for the learned group.
-how effective is the camera set-up the DF comes with? Again, with nothing to compare to, the video I've shot thusfar is surprisingly good, on par with our old analog camcorder. I'm feeding the video directly to my Canon Elura DV camera, and once you get past the shaky images from my amatuerish hovers and the horrific composition, the picture quality and color saturation are quite good.
-is there anything you can suggest as an upgrade for the video receiver? That appears to be the weakest link, although since mounting it on a camera head and attaching it to my transmitter tray, the quality of the up-link has improved dramatically.
Thanks in advance for your help and reccomendations. When I get enough nerve up, I'll post some "home movies"
