Ralphw Key Veteran Location: Spring, TX
| Hi Shaley,
I didn't swap the Quick tail assembly with the stock unit as the Quick parts are bit too heavy when compared with the KSJ upgrade assembly I already have and the tail boom is a different diameter as well. In addition, the gearing on the Quick tail is different than the JR unit. While I could probably make it work, I'm not sure the effort would be worth it.
The VE is a relatively tail heavy heli in it's stock form and I really didn't want to make matters any worse. I'm in the process of stretching the VE tail boom using a cut down (and light weight) JR Venture unit and an ECO 16 belt on the KSJ assembly. That will allow me to use 470mm main blades (420's are stock) and possibly even 500's. With the LiPO battery moved a bit forward from it's current location (maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch) and the Quick 15 head, I should have a good balance and much better flight characteristics.
The head change is going on at the same time (it's a direct bolt-on change) and I should be flying this weekend if UPS drops a box of goodies at the door tomorrow like they're supposed to.
As for a comparison between the Quick and the VE, I can't really say except that my VE should be a good bit lighter at approx 58oz ready to fly (with all the mods) and with the Hacker C40-8L, I'm right in the sweet spot for the VE. The Quick would probably be cheaper to build (the kit is a lot less, but the right power can add up in a hurry...) I don't want to even think of how much I've spent on the VE (aka FrankenHeli)
Whatever you choose...Have Fun!!
