Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Metal Head/Woof Question

I have been looking at the recent posts about the "woof n poof" issue and I had a thought that might (or might not) be relevant.

Has anyone with the upgraded head (specifically the metal blade grips) that has had this problem? I am just wondering if upgrading to metal grips and adding other metal parts to the head have any affect. I am going on the assumption that the posts that I have seen of people having this issue are flying a stock Raptor and not one with an upgraded head.

My point is that is having metal blade grips (or any other upgraded part) has kept this problem from happening, it might be worth the $50 to get them from the start.
Or it might be that others have tried this and it had no effect and I just have not seen that particular post.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

The metal rotorhead assembly is incredibly tight. I have not flown it but did get to examine a full metal jacketed R30 up close at a recent fun fly. You know how you can grab the stock bladegrips & wiggle them up, down, & sideways? There is absolutely none of that with the metal head & grips. I don't know the owner's flying style & he did not fly at the event but said it flies as crispy as a TSK or an RG & then he added "...Just...don't...crash!" The point is that metal does not crash well. Prang that metal just one time & it is bent & must be replaced. I crash often enough that metal is not practical for me; if i want to expend that kind of cash, i might as well just pop for a 60size, you know what i mean?

Crash Damage

I would think that a heil would have to crash (hard) directly on the head to damage a metal blade grip to the point where it would be useless. After a crash like that, damage to the blade grips would be the least of your worries.

I have been wrong before, so please enlighten me if I am way of base here.

The main point though is that my question does not concern cost effectiveness, but does the upgrade (or upgrades) keep the woof n poof problem from surfacing.

Thanks,

Full Metal Raptor

I have the metal grips and metal head for my Raptor. I can attest to the statement that the head is tight as are the grips.

I had a boatload of slop in the original grips, I even changed the grips with a new set of grips (plastic) and it was still sloppy. I had radial and lateral play bigtime in the grips.

When I changed to the metal grips all the play was gone, it was extremely tight and still is very tight after several flights. The metal head is nice too, I just wish I could get an O-Ring upgrade kit on the R30 head like Rick's RC has available for the R60.

I have no flutter, no woof and poof either with the metal upgrades. I would mention that I did change the grips to leading edge control instead of the stock trailing edge design. It flies like a 60 with the 600mm blades. (I have used SAB ad FK600's without any problems.)

I have to believe the metal grips will stop the flutter. If they are going out of track due to the slop in the stock grips the metal ones should cure it.
Personally, I only had one out of track situation with my R30. Since I've converted t to a 46 with metal parts I haven't seen it since.

Also, you want to be sure you have good strong servos on your cyclic,, if they can't hold the loads of the rotorhead you could be inviting those kind of problems which could be induced by swashplate occilation .

Head Flip

RaptorDriver...

Why did you decide to flip the head on your Raptor 50?
Also, where did you get information on how to do it? I have heard of this modification but I have not seen any directions on how to do it (or the real benifits it provides).

Thanks,

Jason
