HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Freya shaft drive for t/r

Anyone use this? I'm very tempted to buy a Freya, but have had nothing but trouble with the belt drive t/r's on 60 size helis (4 different helis). Everyone I've tried so far has failed in one fashion or another. Does the belt drive really hold up to hard 3D? Will it slip when pushed hard in fast backwards flight? Is it up to the stress of a 91? Does the shaft drive really cost $100.00 to replace when I crash it? Dr. Scoles are you out there? Thanks. Steve.

you should send an email to todd bennett, 3D master.

He was flying the crap out of Freyas before he went to MinAir.

He can give you the scoop.

You really dont need the shaft drive. The Freya has an excellent
belt drive setup (unlike alot of the other 60 size belt machines).

Steve,
Yes, the freya's belt system works very well. I have never had it slip in flight. I have seen some people really ring the freya out with 60s, 80s, and 91s, with no problems. I would be very impressed if you could get the belt on the freya to slip in flight. I made it slip when I planted my tail rotors in the ground.

I have a 91 on my freya and so far everything(including the belt) is holding up fine.

No problems with my Freya belt. It helps with aerobatic autos. I even whacked it real good on a recent boom strike. The boom was bent about 15 degrees, but the belt survived!

Freya Belt Drive

The belt drive works perfectly
There are no problems at all with it.
The upgrade is around $200 (you don't need it)
Save your money for fuel.

As for the performance....The freya WORKS

The Freya won the 3D Frestyle Event In Pheonix last weekend by a
16 year old boy that has been flying only 7 months

That is all the proof I need.

Engine was a YS .80

Just like everyone above has stated... You are NOT gonna make this belt slip... Also, its not that much of a difference in autos unless you are Todd Bennett. He said he could tell the difference between the two...slightly Maybe a tad more energy left with the torque tube... I'm not doing piro-tumble autos yet, so I think I'll be OK with the belt...:-)

I have one of each in my 91 Freyas, I have never slipped a belt, nor have I ever lost the tail...period. I rarely fly forward...

There is a way to make a much more affordable repair on the torque tube, you'll have to resize the holes in the bearings by a few thousandths, but it'll knock down your repair cost to about $8 for the tube. Instead of $40. And by the way, Hirobo isn't taking it to us on this one, a friend of mine found the stainless stuff in metric and it was very close to the same price... BUT, buying it in standard is much cheaper.

Get one if you want, makes it easier to take the heli apart if you travel with it...fun to have it. Necessary?..not really.

tube drive

Thanks to all who answered. I've had a 100% failure rate with previous belt drives, and so am naturally pretty leery of them. I had the belts break on aLegend and a Condor, the t/r output shaft broke on my Vigor after I got the belt tight enough that it finally quit slipping, and my Mystar would slip no matter how tight I made the belt. I'm curious what's different about the Freya that avoids these problems? Thanks. Steve.
