| Today saw the first test 'hovers' of my new JR Voyager 50. This isn't a standard Voyager, it has the 10 tooth pinion making for an 8.8:1 ratio which results in ~1900 RPM at the head at the OS 50's optimum operating speed as opposed to ~1740 for the standard Voyager.
My Voyager also has the Curtis 60 size muscle pipe which proved to be a bit of a pain in the ass to get going. The heli wouldn't start, it wouldn't idle and was all in all, a royal pain in the ass. Then we adjusted the gap between the header and the pipe to about 3-4 mm (thanks Wayne) from about 10mm and all of a sudden the heli started first pop, idled great and once we leaned it out quite a bit, the heli started howling like it should.
The heli required no tracking and as yet, no trim adjustments and hovered about 4 - 5 tanks on Darryll's back yard.
We didn't get a chance to get to the field (is pretty much dark by 6pm now...) so I'll have to leave the full on opinion until I've had a chance to thrash it around a bit.
With the bigger pinion and the Muscle pipe, I wouldn't be surprised if the Voyager beat my 91 powered Vigor off the mark. It certainly seemed to jump when asked!
Can't wait to get to the field and rark it up a bit!
Si
