We have a few gas heli's flying at our feild now and I have gotten hooked on them. I see there are a few engines availiable but I am not really up to date on engine specs. Can anyone tell me what is on the market these days.

Hi Tom,

There are 3 choices available,

1. The G231 is the "standard" engine now in the Intrepid Gasser from Bergen RC.

2. The G26 is available as an option for the Intrepid gasser, but will probably become the standard later this year.

3. the G230RC is the standard engine for the Vario Benzine birds.

Other manufacturers will be using these same engines as well.

In Australia, check out www.radiocontrolaustralia.com . They're the local dealer for Bergen RC down under.

I have done a little searching and found an engine by Blois. Any info on these. They still made. Got some good spec's.

The original Blois engine used a G23 marine cylinder, that was custom ported and included custom made cooling fins. These worked VERY well, and reduced the operating temperature of the std G23 by about 100 degrees. The new G231 and G26 from Zenoah now come with much larger cooling fins and won't benefit from this change.

If you already have a g23, then the Blois cylinder is a good upgrade that will significantly improve the usability of the motor and its very easy to install.

If you are going to get a model that uses the G231 or G26, they will be just fine right out of the box.

Hopefully by the end of the year, Miniature Aircraft will be shipping the new gas model which is based on the Fury, to add to your possible selections. It uses the G231 as std equipment.

Thanks Carey for your reply. As yet I have not purchased an engine or model. I have been looking at the Robbe Cuatro with a gas conversion kit. I have been concerned about the power output of the gas engines. I have read a few posts that have mentioned a MA Fury gasser so maybe I will wait a while. Its a pity when it comes to gasser's as they seem to be a little underdeveloped. I'm sure if as much effort was put into gas engines as nitro engines then they would be more popular.

gassers

I have the blois head on my g-23 and I can tell you it is a VERY smooth engine. The robbe is much easier to work on than a MA. You can take a 2 mill driver and a socket and disasemble 99% of the bird. On a MA machine its more slow, but there is a reason for everything on the MA machine. My fued consumption on the gasser with not a lot of 3d is about 45-50 minutes. About 30 some doing hard stuff.

Thanks Doc.

You guys must have to show a little care that your batteries don't run flat before your fuel runs out. As I don't own a Zenoah I think the complete Blois engine will suit me best. Thanks for the reply.
