Ergo CCPM + Futaba 9CH programming help needed

Hello. I'm new here... and new to Helis. I've found myself with an Ergo 30 CCPM, an older (but never used) CSM 360 Gyro, and a new Futaba 9CH radio.

To say that I'm LOST would be an understatement since the Ergo book tells nothing about programming a Futaba radio, the Futaba radio book mentions nothing about an Ergo CCPM machine, and of course the CSM 360 was introduced 4+ years before either the 9CH OR the Ergo CCPM!!

Anybody programmed a 9CH with an Ergo CCPM machine yet? Any ideas on where to begin the setup? I wish now I'd bought an 8103 since the programming instructions are found right in the Ergo manual. But I didn't.

Thanks in advance for any insights anyone can offer.

if the ergo is 120 deg ccpm, then select , from the swash menu, the 120 mix swash. 3 servo
if the ergo is 90 deg ccpm, then select the 90 deg swash mix from the same menu.
do any travel adjustments, servo travel, in the afr menu, not the atv menu.
the csm 360 wants all subtrim and trim on channel 4,rudder, at center or 0. if ya need to trim the tail in normal mode to keep it still, do so mechanically, as in with the pushrod adjustments.
and just for future refrence, 120 deg 3 servo ccpm is 120 deg 3 servo ccpm, heli and radio mfgr independant.

Steve, go to this link and look for any related questions you can find : http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-9c.html.

Thanks to you both...

I've actually figured it out- more or less. Part of the problem was that Futaba gives you SEVERAL 120 degree CCPM set-up options and none of their drawings/descriptions seemed to match the Ergo set-up. I eventually found one that worked reasonably well and then began going down an online checklist I found about setting up generic CCPM systems and was able to get all servos working correctly... NO THANKS to either JR's Ergo manual, OR Futaba's 9CH manual!!!

Now I move on to throttle curves, CSM gyro set-up, etc. But I was determined to figure this out since to me an innate "understanding" of these things is essential for future ability to problem solve, repair, etc. I feel like it's starting to make sense to me now. We'll see.

Thanks again,

Steve - who is glad to find this online heli community

You might try the Pilot Locater and see if anyone is near you...this forum is the second best thing for a new heli pilot to have; a real live teacher is number one! Try this: www.p-locate.rc-helipad.com click on MO and see if anyone is within driving distance. Chris

Steve, welcome to the wonderful world of model helicopters. The problems you are having with your manuals can be explained simply. There are getting to be quite a few CCPM helis out there, if Futaba were to put in a complete setup for each one in the 9C manual, it would start to look like the old Sears catalog. As for the Ergo CCPM manual, JR manufactures both heli kits and radios, and is in very heated competition with Futaba on the radio end of it. They will only give you the setup for their radio, and if possible would convince you that only their radio would work in their helis, and for that matter, any other heli. You have already started with the best course of action, ask questions on the forums and learn from those that already have experiance in your current problem. As you are already figuring out, with a little basic knowledge, it isn't that hard to set up any of the current helis with any of the current radios.

Thanks Maxx & Dyehard...

Actually, I've been fortunate to locate a veteran heli pilot just a few blocks from my home. He's offered to help trim out the Ergo, make final adjustments and help me get started, etc. (I belong to a club with about 60 fixed-wing pilots but he's the only rotary guy.)

I'm sure he would even have helped with the entire programming and set up if I had pressed the issue- but I really felt it was important to "figure it out" for myself... and it's all beginning to make sense now that I've done the several hours of "try this, try that" that it took to get things working.

And yes... I'm sure JR's not eager to help anyone use a Futaba radio. But in this world of PDF files it sure seems like Futaba (and other radio manufacturers) would do well to have downloadable set-up sheets for virtually every heli made available from their website. We can only wish...

Well... now it's on to a few more details like throttle curves, gyro set-up and then out to the field. In the meantime... it's Realflight G2 for me!

Thanks again guys for all the help, the encouragement and the welcome. Now if somebody would just explain to me how to lower the flaps on final approach and where to bolt the wheels & tires I'd be in business!!
