Whats this about the b5011L not taking more 14 cells without being in danger?Please elaborate on this for me. I have one of these on my hawk sport conversion and have been using 16 cells,13t pinion,hacker master controller 48-3p.I have only hovered it a few times and my controller will shuts off at a certain temp if it reaches that temp for its protection but i'm not sure about the motor billy at hacker brushless said it would take 24 volts max and 50 amps max.
Please email or pm me

sorry guys i am not having problems with my controller i just worded this wrong oooops

@flightss

sound like your controller doesnt survive the 50A continously...
Might wanna get a better controller. PHOENIX (from caste creations are great)

I am surprised that you were able to get a thermal shutdown on a 48-3P. Here in Phoenix, where temperatures exceed 100 degrees, I've only seen the controller loose power once which is the signal that you are running it too hard and even then it did not shut off. A friend has a logo 20 which he is running (I believe) 24 cells with the 48-3P with no problem. You might have a bad controller and should have it checked.

The motor may be rated at 24 volts and 50 amps max, but are you sure you're running below 50 amps? Your hawk is a bigger heli than Logo 10, and with 13T pinion your ratio may be different than logo due to the main gear size. You want around 15.38:1 gear ratio for B50-11L on 12 cells, any more than 12 cells you are killing the motor. Plus you are probably running 550 blades, so the amperage is probably a bit more than Logo 10.

If it heats up to the point of thermal shutdown, you will need to hook up a wattmeter and see how many amps it's pulling. 48-3P should be able to handle 50 amps. I have drawn 60+ amps burst in logo 20 with this ESC on 24 cells without any problems.

Florian, CC may make excellent ESCs, but I would stay away from them for heli applications until they sort out all the problems people have reported. Their 60 amps ESC can't even handle the load on a Logo 10 which draws 30 amps at hover. Those Hacker ESCs are much more reliable and consistent.

I found out what a thermal shut down is. I was flying my Logo 10 with a Hacker B40-11L, Hacker 48-3P ESC, 13 tooth pinion and 14 cells. It was flying fine for about 6 minutes then all of a sudden it quit working and crashed. After reading about running 14 cells with my motor I realized why it did that. I have changed my 14 cells back to the 12 cells. I guess I will have to be happy with the flight times I was getting before the 14 cells. Maybe I will try making them to 13 cells and see how they work?

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

the 11L and 13T pinion is a 12-cell setup maximum. I did try 13 and 14 cells, and returned to 12 due to heat (no thermal shutdowns, but monitoring temps with raytak infra-red temp gun showed that the temps were way too high. Also,.. it seemed that the power gain with the higher cellcount was offset by the weight gain, and I much preferred the flight characteristics of the lighter machine on 12 cells. When going to 4S4P lipo's, the 11L was just way too much with the thermal soaking of the long flights, so I went to the C50 13L with 13T pinion. good power like 11L with 12 old roundcells, but lighter machine and 20 minute flights. I've ran the 13L with a 15 tooth pinion also, but have to time my flights and fly two 8 to 10 minute flights due to heat with that setup. The motor and controller are OK (assuming non-governer mode on controller), but the heat from the powerfull 16~18 minute flight gets to be too much for the batteries. As mentioned , non-governer mode on the controller runs MUCH cooler, so you might want to try that if you insist on higher cellcounts with the 11L. I found 20 to 30 degree drops in temp when going non-governer. I also found that the electric governs itself quite well with loading/unloading, so I simply run straight line throttle curves just as I did with governer mode in the controlelr,..i.e. 80% straight across and 100% straight across. I can't really tell any difference in rpm governing compared to governer mode, but power is just a touch better in non-governer mode, and the controlelr stays MUCH cooler to boot.
