Hi,

I'm new to runryder and am seriously interested in getting into helicopters. To date I don't own a helicopter but looking for some advice for my first. My LHS supports Hirobo and the Raptor 30 which is encouraging in case of a crash. I'm tending to lean more toward a Sceadu 30, but would like to know if major disassembly is required to change the main gear(s) on that particular model. Also how hard is it to remove the engine from a Sceadu 30?
I do like building kits, hence nine r/c cars, four airplanes, and three boats. All of which have been used in/on their particular element.
Thanks to all.

Cwoods,

Try to go with the Sceadu 50. Lot's more power Either way,Sceadu 30 or 50, the machines are virtually identical except for gearing, motor mount, muffler and blades. You don't need to split the side frames to change the gears. Just remove the lower main mast bolt and lift the main mast up. The main gear will come out easily. The engine requires you to remove the muffler then the four bolts holding the motor mount to the fram. The motor then drops right out the bottom. Very easy.

Although, unless you really dork it in the likelyhood of you breaking a main gear is slim.

Agreed!!

One bolt.......pop off a couple of links and the whole mast slides right out the top bearing and the gear slides off.

After I assembled mine, I got the 3rd bearing block and DTDS upgrades.....it took me less than 10 minutes to do the entire upgrade.

Hope this helps..

Thanks guys! I see the idea of more power with a 50, but is that good for training?

No problem training with a 50. You can always 'tone' down the motor( i.e. run it slightly rich, reduce control throws on the carb, etc) Then when you're ready for the 50's power it'll be there for you. You can even train on a 60 sized machine but the size increase brings along a whole other set of issues rather than the power.

Get the Sceadu 50, you'll be glad you did in the long run.

You won't use the extra power until you get a little further along but it will be there

Thanks again for the input. Is it possible to use the OS46 in the Sceadu 50, or do I need to go all out and get the OS50?

I got the OS 46 in mine. See my web page:

http://www.geocities.com/jbrundt/sceadu.html

It works great and has plenty of power. Not quite up there with the 50 but more than enough that I'll have to go to the 600mm blades like the guys with the 50's are doing. It fits perfectly in the 50 sized mounts since the motor itself is the same physical size as the 50.

Hope this helps.
