I might be able to get a good deal on this and was wondering if you guys think it is a good first heli? It has a os32, tuned pipe,Gy401/9523,and looks perfect. Just wondering if it is good to learn on, how far it will take me (3D?), and the crash repair cost? Thanks. Ohh yeah, and is anyone planning on being at the Brandon Fun-Fly this weekend?

Well the RG is a great helicopter. However you might find it more costley to repair than you think. The RG is a high end version of the Shuttle line. I would suggest something more appropriate for learning. A Challenge is something you will find to be most cost effective. If you really want to spend your money well and get the most, the Sceadu is wonderful. Very stable and smooth to fly. 3D is wonderful, very smooth and progressive in it's movement. Good luck

IMO, you would quickly drown in parts cost.

The RG is a heavy machine (ie. lead sled) and
not great for 3D'ing.

I'd recommend a Scedu instead.

Shuttle RG

Let me first begin by saying the Shuttle RG is an OUTSTANDING
helicopter. It is THE BEST 30 SIZE HELICOPTER I have ever
flown. It will do anything you can think of (with the proper servos,
gyro, exhaust, etc). Thats the good news...

The bad news is it will be very, very expensive if you crash. Not
only are parts extremly expensive, 99% of them are made out of
metal. If you crash a "plastic" helicopter like a Raptor, the pastic
will flex and then bend back into shape. As long as the plastic
does not crack, you are fine. However, if you crash a metal
helicopter like the RG, many of the parts will bend. You will then
have to replace all the bent parts. Sure, you can try to bend them
back, but you are asking for trouble if you do. You will never get
all the parts bent back perfectly, and that will cause mis-alignments.
Those mis-alignments will cause vibrations and things to wear out
quickly...

So in the end, I would suggest you go with something like a Raptor.
It is a good flyer, will get you into 3D without upgrades, is inexpensive,
parts are easy to get (and cheap compared to the RG), and I bet you
can ask anyone at your club for help since they are likley to own one
or two.

Take a look at my RG located in my gallery.
