Crashed? Discussion and Photos > Component failures......

So, I'm skimming across the strip to land, banked over when suddenly the heli piros rapidly at 3 or 4 feet, too fast for me to catch and the heli goes in. Heli is a Futura Nova, just recovering from a self inflicted crash and this is the second flight.

Transpires the tail push rod gave in at the point where the threaded piece ends at the servo end, little doubt in my mind this fatigued. Now this is a brand new rod, 1 and a half tanks of fuel. So, my thinking is - 'not fit for purpose intended'. Am I justified in thinking Robbe should pay for the damage or should I buy parts, watch them fail and accept it as the norm?

If this happened after a few months I could kind of accept it

Yes it was the Robbe part, and yes I'm acutely aware of how fragile the push rods are. I've had one fail before but it occurred at the tail end and it was over a year old.

I replaced this one because the old one had a slight bend in it and I didn't want to bend it back for just this reason....

You can be sure I will take this up with Robbe. There is no doubt in my mind that these rods are potentially unsuitable in this application. It has to be accepted by the manufacturer that this component will be subject to resonances and vibration etc and should be capable of withstanding a 'reasonable' level of vibe which could be expected to occur in a model helicopter.

Unfortunately it did cause plenty of damage, the failure occurring at an altitude and attitude that was irrecoverable for me - hard banked at 3 to 4 feet.
