Back when I was involved with shooting I remember using Ultima-Lube from Wilson Combat on my 1911 .45 acp. If anyone knows about semiauto's then you know how much stress and friction is created on the slide when a round is fired and the slide rides back on the frame! Try shooting 300-400 rounds in a session (I used to reload myself) and you know how important proper lubrication is! That particular .45 had about 14000 rounds on it using Ultima-Lube exclusively and when I sold it there was no noticeable play on the slide. This grease really worked much better than a dozen or so of other products I tried. It is really good stuff and I don't see why it would not work on our helis. It is not at all expensive and comes in very handy syringe with a plastic needle applicator. Check it out for yourself at http://www.wilsoncombat.com/accesso...maintenance.asp

The problem with recommending any one lube is that there are a million of them, each claiming to be awesome while failing to present any convincing argument why they should be thought of as awesome.

Ultima Lube's description below reads "conventional lubricant" which might very well mean petroleum-based making it inappropriate for those who believe that petroleum-based lubes attack dampeners. No?

begin description:
Ultima-Lube™ virtually eliminates metal to metal friction through the use of high quality conventional lubricants as a carrier and electrochemical ionization utilizing anti-friction metal treatment technology. Therefore, the lubricating benefits of Ultima-Lube™ are two-fold, the high quality conventional lubricant stays where you put it without getting all over your clothes, hands and shooting glasses. Simultaneously, the anti-friction metal treatment "PLATES" the metal contact surfaces with a virtual "Friction Free" surface to eliminate galling and surface wear from friction. Since the metal treatment actually fills the microscopic pores of the metal surface these surfaces retain adequate lubrication even after the carrier lubricant has been removed. This unique combination of lubrication methods has proven ideal for today's high-tech semi-auto weapons whether manufactured of conventional steels, aluminum alloys or stainless steel. In addition, we have found nothing superior to Ultima-Lube™ for proper lubrication of the tightly fitted custom handguns that Wilson's have built their reputation on.
end description

No flame intended but that totally reads like lubrication marketing weasel-worded talk-alot-say-little hype i've seen before. It's too bad too because this stuff may be God's Gift and I'll never know because i wrote it off as no better & possibly worse for my application than what i'm using, namely Permatex White Lithium Grease W1-9 in a 1.5fl oz tube by Loctite Corporation. I'm not sponsered...but...i should be. ;-)

Worked great for me. Have not tried it yet on heli, don't see why it wouldn't work as well as on guns. Made a beliver out of me as far as gun grease goes!
