So I took the Hawk Sport out today after working on it and decided to do some flying around. I am working on my forward flight and yeah the tail locked up on me and I did my first piroette. I lost it, but not without a fight. I broke the usual. I know I need a tail gear box, and all the rest that goes with a crash. I was able to land her in the beans and save it fairly well. We looked it over and the tail locked up complety. Yes, I will be checking my end points when she is back to being a helicopter. Sad yet I am glad I crashed, I learned that I can do forward flight. So since it did about 20 piros can I count that as my first one or does it have to be controlled?

AH I won't count it. I should of had the balls to do it on my own. I guess I can't complain since i haven't crashed in a year. It was bound to happen. Just glad it wasn't dumb thumbs, but actual mechanical problems.

We have a guy at our field that lost control doing FF during his first month of flying a heli and now claims to have done inverted, roll and loop. We have tried to tell him that what a heli does before a crash does not count as something you can do.

Out of the 5 crashes I've had in 18 months, somebody else crashed 1 for me, 1 was a stall turn and I got disorientated and forgot to pull up out of it but 3 have been to do with the tail. think somebody is trying to tell me something, CHECK THE BLOODY TAIL

I don't mind crashing when it's my own fault, well maybe a little, but the machanical failures are a real bitch, more so because you don't have any control over what breaks in flight. You do all the checks, make sure everything is nice and tight, nothing broken so you fly. Then you hover upto 25 feet and then you find out the hardway that one of the screw threads has snapped inside the carbon tail control rod. Only you couldn't see it because it INSIDE the carbon rod. Then you get the joy of watching the control rod dangle from the heli and your beutiful, well cared for, expensive, lovingly polished heli piro straight into mother earth.

But hey I'm not bitter, i got to rebuild the new improved mark2 rappy

Sorry just had to get that off my chest, feel better now

Stephen
