Where do I find all the shiny metal bits for the SE. I am looking for bellcranks and washout arms in particular.

Has anybody used a different manufacturers arms or bellcranks successfully.

I have found that Robbe's plastic molding sucks! All the holes for the bearings, (in both the bellcranks and washout arms) do not line up, meaning the centers of each bearing are not in alignment.

When I tighten down the arms or bellcranks, they get in such a bind that they will not rotate free. Yes , I am using the correct number of washers, etc.

I have used several methods for determining the alignment error, and not just speaking out of my arse :+)

I ordered a new set of washout arms and they were exactly the same.

Surely, someone else has noticed this and I'm not the first, as these kits have been out for a long time, and then again, maybe I just got some parts from a "bad batch"??????

Thanks for your time,
Raj

Misfit parts

Raj, I would recommend rebuilding the bell mixer and washout arm sets. Check and see if there is any flashing at the base where the bearings go. If the bearings don't seat then the middle washer won't take the load off the bearings and thus preventing smooth movement. I do remember having to apply a great deal of force to get the bearings to seat completely. Anything is possible but these parts have been in production for quite some time and I'm sure if the dies that make the parts were faulty we would have heard waves of cries. If you really think the parts are defective you can mail me the parts and I will see if I can get them to work properly. If I find that they are defective I will see that you get a set that work.

bellcranks,washout arms

Thanks guys, for your input and willingness to help! Paul at HUI has been pretty good to deal with. I had a couple of bearings missing from my new kit and he sent them out to me. I didn't want to hassle him about all these plastic bits, so I had a friend of mine (machinist) "fix" them for me already.

I was just suprised to see such great machining quality, and yet poor plastic molding?? There was absolutely no flashing getting in the way of the bearings. (At least I didn't have to line bore , ream and sleeve the head block like I had to with the Raptor :+(

For example look at the bellcranks, with everything centered, the bellcranks are supposed to be level (pivot point to ball), well why couldn/'t they mold the bellcranks at a 90 degree angle, so it would be easier to "eyeball"??? Even the antirotation bracket for the swashplate would not fit in the frames properly, I had to cut quite a bit of material off it to make the bolt hole line up.

No big deal, just small details that could easily be fixed, (just maybe about 10 grand in new molds :+).

Please dont' get me wrong, i'm not complaining, I do like the heli very much (design wise), as I haven't flown it yet. Just waiting on Mark Kiner to put his MOJO to it first :+)

I saw some bellcranks on Heli-proz site and they sure are proud of those. Maybe I'll stick with the plastic ones :+)

Thanks again fellas,
Raj

Rick's has all the shiny stuff. A bit expensive though. You can easily spend the price of another kit just adding all the metal available. Everyone I talk to says to fly them stock unless you want the cosmetic change. I have not noticed this issue with the Milli I am rebuilding or the SE I am building. But I am partial to machined metal parts.....
