Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > my main gear is getting ground up

While inspecting my Raptor 50, I noticed a light grey powder around the pinion gear and coating the air intake area up under the frame. Looking at the main gear, there is a very clear white mark (indent?) on one side of each tooth, very near the bottom of the "V", where the pinion gear is meshing, and I think that's where the grey powder is coming from.

Right now it's just a mark, it's not like it's making a serious dent in the teeth's mechanical soundness, although the grey dust is evidence that material is being removed from the gear. I looked over the heli and I can't see a way to adjust the mesh of the pinion with the main gear... they're both goverened by the position of the bearings, which are set in the frame.

These parts are all 'stock", this kit came with the os50sx engine. Is this wear normal, or abnormal? Is it "bad"? And is there something I can do to prevent it? I can get pics of the affected area if they would help solve the problem.

Have you notched the frame for the carb screw on the OS50?
If not, you may have a mis-aligned assembly (engine/clutch). Mine did
not fit until I notched the frame as others suggested. Just a thought.

Yup, I couldn't even get the mounting holes to line up until I carved that out. It's got about 1/2mm of clearance now, so it's not pressing against the frame.

Gear Dust

My Rap 50 conversion with the 8.5:1 gearset did something similar, but the dust or whatever went away after a few tanks. Working fine for most of a year now. I think that the molded main gear and the machined pinion just need to 'break-in' .

I noticed the same on my new R50 this weekend. Hopefully its just the meshing seating in.

Let me know how you get on.
