On my raptor i mounted servos with the rubber inserts but without the brass spacers. Im impatient and the brass spacers are too small for the supplied screws. Everthing is super secure they arnt going anywhere is this a really really bad idea?

Thanks Jesse

Never get impatient on building a heli because you will miss or screw somethng up and it will bite you in the wallet trust me I learned this the hardway.

What transmitter package did you get? (and what model of servos?) I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the screws being too big for the brass collars. My Futaba fit fine.

You should be able to retro-fit them on without too much hardship. When I first assembled my Raptor, I didn't even include the rubber bumpers... then I ran across that situation described in Ray's manual as a "horror" and thought I'd better fix it. "Oh, THAT'S what those are for!" heh...

The brass collars allow you to tighten down the screws snug without pinching the rubber ends which absorb the vibration. Pinching them would prevent them from doing their job. So long as you didn't crank down the screws too tight already, they have a real good bite in the plastic as I recall, you should be ok for the time being. Just keep an eye on the screws and make sure none come loose.

Have Jr xp8103 setup but im using (ht hs-650bb) servors for everythig but rudder and thats the digital servo that came with the gy401.

From you post it sounds that iI may have sinched them down too tight i think what ill do is try it as is and fix it when i have a chance. The raptor screws definttly dont fit through the spacers tho.

I think I know what he is talking about

You used the screws that came with the kit didn't you?
Yes they are bigger, the servo screws that come with the kit are slightly bigger in diameter. Well its all said and done with unless you want to fix the holes with JBWeld or such and redrill em. The brass inserts are important as they allow the servo to float to a degree albiet small on those little rubber pads. This helps isolate the servo from the vibrations of the motor which if not taken care of may cause premature failure of the servo(s) to occur. It is also a good ideal to apply a teenee weenee drop of CA glue to the screw tip, don't worry it will come apart quite easily. Does anybody else concur?

Twobeers,

thanks for the reply i think i will fix it but the prob was the screws that came with the servos wouldnt grab anythign they were way too small for the raptor holes. I think I'll run a few flights and then worrie about fixing it.

There’s nothing coming loose on this I’m using the large screws that came with the raptor. Your sarcasm makes it sound as if you think the vibration is gonna kill the servos on the first couple runs?

is this correct?

Well, it's your $1000 that you want to bet
with but that is your choice.

Helicopters are vibration factories. It's what
they do. Honestly, the 605 servos are, in my
book, totally unsuitable for helicopters.

If the servo fails, your machine will most assuredly crash.

I think his sarcasm comes from your lack
of patience. The ONE thing this hobby
doesn't tolerate is lack of patience. As
an experienced pilot, he's seen too many
new guys that 'gotta get the machine flying'
first without the necessary checking, double and
triple checking before starting up the flying
lawnmower and giving enough respect to
what that machine can do to you in a moment of time.

Now think of it flying, out of control and coming directly at you.
