Which amount of oil are you using? The black tone is right but your engine cant eat so much oil and that´s the reason of the black residues. Are you using a fuel filter?. H needle setting is right, may be the lowend is a little rich imo

Elossam - I'm currently running AMSOIL - 2oz per gal. The first gallon on this plug had 4oz of Yamalube.

Yes - I do have a fuel filter. It's the 'stone' type. There is also a felt cluck in the tank.

You may be right about the low end. I was probably rich in the beginning (My first adventure with gas engines!). Right now, I think I'm a bit closer to correct. I'm at 1 1/4 H and 1 1/8 L.
