Finally! Got a good chance to hit the air and burned five tanks, spending more of that fuel in the air than on the ground for once. The last two tanks I played a game of "keep-away" with the ground. Probably touched down a total of a dozen times in those two tanks. Hopefully by next outing I will be able to have a reasonably good lock on a stable stationary hover, the wind was making a nuisance of itself as usual.

One close scrape early on, had the wind suddenly gust hard and take it about 35ft up. I have NO business being up there. Its travel took it right near the sun and lost orientation, so I pitched hard forward to get it away from the daystar which of course sent it plummeting down. Managed to catch it well before impact and didn't even touch ground. I was impressed, and white-knuckled, but kept flying.

Oh, that and as I was flying I found myself slightly distracted by a yellow cesna buzzing overhead. I started to land immediately and was going to go find the pilot and find out what freq he was on, just in case, (I'm in a park, not a RC field!) but didn't see anyone. Then the cesna got closer and oh! That's not an RC, it's a real one flying REALLY low. hehehe... I bet he got within 200ft of the lake. I'd have waived but I had my hands full. If I'd have been more experienced he'd have been in my airspace.

Successful outing

Sounds like you had a successful outing. I am wanting to get several tanks through my bird in on a single day, but that has not been my luck so far. Perhaps over the next few days things will permit. I just hope I can say the same as you and return with a fully intact heli when the day is over.

I wish you continued success.

Yeah, finally a nice day w/o too much wind. I got out and burned about 6 tanks on both birds. That new 330cc upgrade fuel tank is excellent! I get almost 25 min. on a tank!
How fast does that 50 suck down a tank Virt1? Have you taken off the training gear yet? We should plan another trip to Independence for a mini-Fun-Fly if the weather is gonna stay like this.

Remember; It always seems darkest before going totally black.

I clocked 1:06 on my transmitter, so that's about 12 minutes apiece. I stopped just before getting into the header on each flight, so I suppose I'll get more like 14 minutes per tank when I'm more 'up and around' with it. I was out at the field for more like two hours, about 20 minutes of which was spent inside my truck, defrosting my fingers. I picked up a pair of jersy gloves to whack the fingertips off of for the next outing.

I've still got the gear on, and good thing, I did have one semi-sideways landing when a gust caught me by surprise when trying to touch down. I'll probably pick a nice calm day to take it off. Given how much "get up and go" it has now, I'm expecting quite an agile bird when I drop the gear. This was only my 5th day out, don't want to move too fast and have to take it home in a cardboard box.

I already sent Rich an email asking if he knew of any plans for another mini-FF. I'm not sure who organizes those, but I thinik he pulled together the last one. *shrug*

I wouldn't go "cold turkey" on the gear. make a smaller lighter setup and fly a couple of tanks to get used to the change first
