| Finally! Got a good chance to hit the air and burned five tanks, spending more of that fuel in the air than on the ground for once. The last two tanks I played a game of "keep-away" with the ground. Probably touched down a total of a dozen times in those two tanks. Hopefully by next outing I will be able to have a reasonably good lock on a stable stationary hover, the wind was making a nuisance of itself as usual.
One close scrape early on, had the wind suddenly gust hard and take it about 35ft up. I have NO business being up there. Its travel took it right near the sun and lost orientation, so I pitched hard forward to get it away from the daystar which of course sent it plummeting down. Managed to catch it well before impact and didn't even touch ground. I was impressed, and white-knuckled, but kept flying.
Oh, that and as I was flying I found myself slightly distracted by a yellow cesna buzzing overhead. I started to land immediately and was going to go find the pilot and find out what freq he was on, just in case, (I'm in a park, not a RC field!) but didn't see anyone. Then the cesna got closer and oh! That's not an RC, it's a real one flying REALLY low. hehehe... I bet he got within 200ft of the lake. I'd have waived but I had my hands full. If I'd have been more experienced he'd have been in my airspace. |
