Finally got my hornet to fly. I had it flying before off a tethered cord, but since I upgraded to razor V2, lipos, and turbine swash, I have yet to fly until now. I have been through endless hardships with this stupid thing. Almost every part on the helicopter broke in setup. Just when something would work, something else would break or need attention.

I broke a carbon tail output shaft trying to take of a gear, so I bought a pushrod from my lhs that was nearly the same daimeter, and now I have a steal wire drive. No wind up. I have the gain at about 40 and no wag, but I haven't tried any higher. The everything on the tail is pretty wigglefree. I even managed to strip both razor threads, and had to go to a bigger size screw. Endless fiddling and rebuilding because something wasn't right. I can't tell you have much I hate this glue thing. Its nice that when something breaks you can just glue it, but it would be so much nicer to have everything bolt together like on larger helis. Now that I think about it, I kinda wish I would have gotten an eco 8. I have spend so much on this. This is partially a strong word of warning to anyone thinking about getting a hornet or other micro. Some people have had better luck than I have, but plan on spending at least 700 to get it flying nicely, and that is including all the parts you have to replace from a bad initial setup or minor crashes.

I agree with the $700 price to get it flying nicely, BUT....
I am running almost everything stock except for the paddles, battery, motor and speed controller. If you take your time when building this delicate machine, you should have no trouble getting it to fly right. It took me longer to build the Hornet than my Intrepid Gasser. Mine has been through numerous crashes with very little damage. One of the crashes includes being sucked through the rotor blades of a Freya with almost no damage.

I think it is a well designed little machine. Just take your time while building it to avoid backtracking and it will serve you very well.

I really think

I really think the stainless wire drive was a big improvement. I haven't had such good tail hold since I changed. I run at like 40 gain and thats even with a pretty bad vibration in the frame from a very slightly bent main shaft.

I'll Have to give it a try if I have the right size piano wire laying around.

Thanks for the tip.
