Finally got it into the air ... what a smooth handling heli, only got 2 tanks through it so far, but enjoyed. Not as smooth as my raptors, guess that's the gas engine in it, but boy, does it feel nice on the sticks. Will fine tune it after more time on the engine, but seems to have loads of power. I like it! Thanks to Malorie, Chris, Billme, and Dr. Tim, and all who have helped me with this project and the many questions I've posted on RR. The canopies are in the 'mail' from Arizona Heli, can't wait for them, either

Malorie, you sure went the extra mile helping me out, I had alot of questions, and you never seemed irritated (but then I can't see you, can I ) Thanks alot, it's a keeper!

Great to hear it's finally up and flying for you. It has been a pleasure helping you out.

Have a great time with your heli. I look forward to hearing about your adventures with it.

Best of luck and happy flying,
Malorie

Thanks!

I gotta give Larry a call, too, and thank him, he was very patient with me, also, on the phone several times, and was willing to pin the start shaft for me. I couldn't start it with my 7ah gel cell, but it started great on my truck battery. Probably will start with gel cell after it's broke in. The dynatron starter spun it over relatively fast on 12V, and guess what, no glow driver needed!

Excellent!

I've been flying a borrowed Intrepid around the West Coast at funflys doing some demos; nice machine!

Draws a great crowd and so much fun to do large graceful 3D stuff.

Rick,
Please tell me more (PM) about your Bergen. I am getting ready to purchase one and there are some things I want that it sounds like you have (like I don't want the pull start). Also, what kind of hints or such things can you share (this will save me from bothering Malorie and Larry).

Glad to hear your up and flying! These Machines are Sweet! My gassers PullStart will be replaced with an Electric start eventually. Getting things ready now for the COBRA!

Thanks

for all the kind words. I'm glad to be flying it, too. Handles so much nicer than my rappys, Gotta get it broke in, so I can open it up some. What head speed are you people using, mine seems to like 1700, that sound about right? Is it normal for some vibration in the tail?

For hovering, about 1650 works well. Going upstairs, 1750 to 1800 lets her rock and roll.

Do you have the 3D fin set, or the solid ones? The 3D vertical will buzz a little at the tip, no big deal.

Chris

Right now, the stock fins, but the 3D one's will be here shortly, they're on their way from Arizona Heli. The tail actually shakes a little, but no hunting. Maybe I should check the head for balance, seems to be a slow shake, not high speed, like from the tail, or maybe the engine is still rich, not sure yet, gassers are new to me. Should the actual tail remain rock still, or do you get some shake. It's not enough to take the tail out of focus, but you can see it moving up and down a little.

Okay, Couple more questions. Is it a side to side or an up and down movement? Is it a vibration or is the tail moving in a direction?

A side to side movement is indicative of a rich condition on the engine, or gyro gain too low. You may or may not also hear the engine note changing with the side to side motion.

Up and down movement may be too low a head speed for the dampening you have in the head.( I call it the weeble wobbles )
Possible head and/or blades out of balance. Check flybar is centered without the paddles on (sorry Mal )

Is it in the vertical fin or the horizontal? Or the whole tail?

up and down, and it gets better with higher head speed ... I've got the dual O ring setup.

update on flight

finally got over the size intimidation thing ... flew two tanks around the 'patch', and was really impressed with the gasser. Tracks like it's on rails, and VERY powerful and fast. Had no idea gassers handled this well, and was impressed with how light the heli really felt. I'm really happy with it, and would recommend one to everyone who likes a quality heli that handles really well.

Received my bergen canopy from arizona heli today, and got it installed. Will post pictures as soon as I can get someone who has a digital to take some The heli looks better than I expected (almost to nice for the likes of me )

Rick, I noticed the same thing, the first time I flew my gasser. I was very surprized at how light it felt in the air. The Bergen collective at work!
