I'm just wondering what are/were the "Edsels" of the RC Helicopter world?
Not JUST helis, but, the equipment and everything connected with the use of RC helis.
I know that most of our equipment is pretty good these days, but there are still some things that should be avoided--lets hear about that kind of stuff. I'll start:
I have read a lot of negative posts about the TT 36 engine, most seem to feel you have a 50-50 chance of getting a good one.
Not a heli engine, but, the OS LA with it's plastic backplate has to be up there on the "dog" list. Lets NOT get into any type of flame wars here; just havin' some fun.

I have seen most machines but the worst by far was the Kavan Alouette "40 size" machine from the late 70's. This made the earlier Dubro machines look well made

Curious?????????

Now-now guys, This is NOT a pi**ing contest, I'm just curious about crappy products, like servos, engines, radios anything like that, field equipment etc.-etc.
There have been several really crappy remote glo heaters. We all saw the posts about JR 8411's-that's the stuff I'm talking about.
Maybe we can have a truce on the afore mentioned instance--since that has been beaten to death several times.

The Heli-boy was a good machine compared to the Dubro Shark with the O and R gas engine converted to glow. Flat bottom blades, free tetering head, 900 to 1000 rotor rpm, fixed pitch and about 12 lbs. this was a "man's" machine--- a crazy mans!!! Only cost about $400.00 in mid 70's.

Yikes 12 lbs. fixed pitch? That sounds like something I'm glad not to have experienced.

Hey BladeRunner. I think Rudy is on to something. My first experience was with a GMP Hughes 300 30 size but it was not the heli. It was the mechanical gyro and fixed pitch. It had a Como 40 in it that was one hell of a motor. Bet you never heard of that motor. Then the Quick takes a close 2nd

Motor?

No, I haven't hear of that motor, it's the second time it's been mentioned here though, sounds like a nightmare.

Surprised????

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the poor Telebee. I have both the 701 & 703, I'm using the 703 in my Nexus and it works fine so far.

The Telebe worth anything? Most assuredly!!! Mine was worth $50.00 toward a 401 at Rick's.

Hyperfly

I was in FAO Schwartz recently - they had a Hyperfly on the shelf. They were only asking $499.99.

What a deal.

After my experiences with a Concept SE (plastic everything, foam blades that made this chopping noise in forward flight, overpriced plastic garbage)in the early 90's and then the Hyperfly, which really cannot fly without doing tons of mods and then learning that Great Planes will give you a credit if you bitch to them because they know it is nearly impossible to fly out of the box.I will never buy another Kyosho product again.Jason Kalbfleisch

como 40

I used to have a Como 40 on an airplane. The engine was so worn out that when I would stop the engine in the air to do a deadstick landing, I could dive it and the prop would windmill because the engine had so little compression.
