Well, the event doesn't officially start tomarrow, but with over 70 registered pilots already on hand today, it is safe to say the event is a success. Here's a couple pics from Friday to kick this thread off.

I just posted my pictures from the event in my gallery.. they haven't been Mark'd yet, so they are still large in size..

Most amazing thing I saw... A Sceadu auto'd into the corn after the engine died (I think the fuel was a bit nonexistant at the time ) Well, a whole group of people go out to search for it... We find it about three and a half feet off the ground wrapped like it was prepped for shipping in two corn stalks. It only gets better from here... upon extracting it from the corn, we see that other than a little dirt, and maybe a few links, NOTHING is damaged... absolutly amazing.

I've seen two autos like that at my field, both by the same pilot. First he was letting another guy fly his freya when the torque tube let go in the tail during a piro loop. It went down in tall grass with no damage. The second was with his X-Spec when the OS-91 died while he was inverted at the top of a loop. No damage there either, at least not to the heli...

USE LINUX!

Helped find a Rappy in the corn today too... looked like the flybar was the only damage...

THE CORN IS YOUR FRIEND! (well, second best friend after altitude)

The Owatonna, MN Ring Out was a blast. I heard they had 103 pilots register, but I'm sure Jayman can udate us on the final results when he gets enough sleep. Boy did those guys go all out! There was non stop action. Two full size heli's landed yesteday and one was available for rides for $30/12 minutes. I heard they ended up giving money back due to it getting dark. They apparently only expected to get 3 or 4 people to sign up - boy did they underestimate this group! Anyway, thanks to Jason and Steve for all the hard work. I look forward to coming again next year.

Eric, I missed your crash, but glad to hear you found the problem. Hard to believe it could have been a radio hit at this location. Hope you come back next year.

Beyond our Expectations

With 101 pilots registered from over 10 states the Owatonna Rotary Ring Out was a huge success. The huge new field, the full scale helis, the great food, and tons of pilots all came together to make one great event. I want to thank all the pilots for coming out and making it what it was. I also want to thank the SMMAC RC club for having the best food ever, the best field in the state, cutting the grass twice, parking cars and all that other key stuff you guys did. Much appreciated.

I would also like to thank all our sponsors. Please visit our website and take a look:

When we started this event two years ago I don't think Steve or I ever expected it to grow this fast. It has been great seeing everyone enjoy themselves and have a great time the last three years. Hope to see you next year!

This event was so much more than I expected. Jason and Steve deserve many thanks for putting this together. I've only been flying for about two and a half months and I felt right at home. Even did my first loop there over the pink runway! Hopefully this will continue to grow so this can get the nationwide recognition it deserves. Great flying, great company, great event.

how 'bout pilot number 3 throwing the Fury back into the raffle for someone else to win since he didn't think he'd use it (said he won a nice raffle prize last year)...

talk about sportsmanship! that was above and beyond... this whole event was like that with everyone involved going above and beyond!

this event can only get bigger with that kind of spirit.

That was Jason's dad! What a class act! Jason could have told his dad to keep it and give it to him but he didn't, he wanted one of the pilots who came to win it. Those guys put on a great fun fly, at a great location. I hear they will be bringing two full size helis for rides next year! Man, what a blast! looking forward to next years.

Eric,
Thanks for coming to the Rotary Ringout, I was looking forward to seeing you fly--its really a bummer what happened, I was standing right behind the flightline watching when it went in.
It was awsome to see what you could do with the Mc Hornet, I had no idea a little machine like that could possibly do all of those 3-d manuvers. Please come again next year!!!!

"Porkchop",
Thanks for putting on a great event "again", I can speak for all of the Staples guys when I say we had the best time ever this year!!!
