Well HoboEric,

I understand, the question is, will people who are paying for a product be willing to understand, or will they go to another vendor that still has phone service? Its your business, if this works for you and you are sucessful, good for you. For myself and my money, I'll call someone else. And by the way, your anger for my "not understanding" as you put it is as bad a business strategy as using e-mail to conduct business,,,,,

With respect, 300 calls a day if that's realistic is a tough task but I'd think that 300 emails a day is even tougher.

Not only that, a phone can and will eliminate 2 or 3+ or even more emails per person, as sometimes multiple emails will have to be sent back and forth to solve something, in my case it was 3-4 days of back and forth emails.

I don't mean to offend you or HeliHobby in any way, I just think phone service is important for customer service but that's just my opinion.

Your opinion, and the opinion of this forum, is the most important thing to any business because it dictates where we will buy. Multipy that by the 500+ who have already looked at this thread, and thats a hell of an impact on someones business.

I've been caught in your "solution" and it sucks. 6 1/2 weeks ago you signed for my RMA. I still don't have my parts (radio). Sean finally called me this last Wed. It took 5 minutes for him to figure out the solution, thats after dozens of unanswered emails over a 6 week period. This Sat. will be 7 weeks without the major part of my order, unacceptable. Your current "solution" to the phone problem is more of a problem then the problem you're trying to fix.

Emails are much faster than phone calls, in my experience. Try to find a phone contact number on eBay's web site. A little difficult? That's because phone support is extremely expensive in terms of time.

I've worked in several service businesses where I had to spend a lot of time with customers on the phone. A quick "which channel do I plug my gain into?" or "what gyro do you recommend for my piccolo?" question can turn into 30 minutes of chit chat that may or may not even stay on the topic at hand. An email response to either of those questions takes less than a 30 seconds.

On the other hand, I've heard that HH is not doing so hot about answering their emails either - that I find unacceptable. If you are going to constrain the method of communication, you better darn well stay on top of it, no matter how many emails you are getting.

Poor service

I am a Newbe to this sport, but have been in R/C for many years.
I recently decided to jump in with both feet and ordered a Corona brushless kit from HeliHobby on CA. I received my kit with the controller "Backordered". No big deal. During construction I found many problems with the kit, example... No Deans antenna, no pinon gear or mounting hardware for the brushless motor, the invoice stated a Futaba receiver, I got a GWS receiver with no crystal, and the servos have the Futaba type connectors, they don't fit.
I have tried to email Helihobby but have receied no responses.
I wish I had run accross this thread before I decided to go to Helihobby.
I have been in the service business for many years and have always found the key to referals and customer satisfaction has been top quality customer service.
I should have been more diligent in selecting a retail outlet. If I had known that they did not answer their phone or emails, I would have purchased form another outlet and avoided the problems.
Good luck to all.

Sorry to hear it Boatracer,

I feel for you as I went through this with them too, anyone buying over the internet from Helihobby is asking for trouble. If you order is wrong, which it seems to be a high percent of the time, you have hardly any recourse and have to just write e-mails and hope they answer, or you can dispute the charge with your credit card company and send everything back to them. I wish all the magazines and websites refused their advertising dollars till the problems are resolved and they actually use their phones again!! Heliproz and Rick's get many many orders and they don't have giant staffs, yet they maintain phone service, even if as in the case with Ricks, they take messages and get back to you. I for one DO NOT use Helihobby any longer, even though they have lots of items I would like to order, I have to find other places to get the items due to their Horrendous unprofessional ordering and support system.

Boatracer,

It's not really Helihobby's fault. If you read the e-heli section on rcgroups.com (probably the best place for Corona talk) you'll find that almost EVERYONE who's bought a Corona has had some bits missing from the kit. It's the fault of LMH who have absolutely hopeless quality control on the making up of their kits. To be fair to them they will send the missing bits to you at no cost but if, like me, you're not in the US this delays the build by 3-4 weeks. As I say, almost everyone with a Corona has experienced this.

Hi Wright Flyer,

I'm not talking about the kit parts per se, its more like if there are ANY problems with your order from Helihobby that is no one to call, and they don't answer your e-mails either right away, or ever! If things aren't perfect, which with Helihobby they rarely are, you can't get your message to them and the wait if they do answer is forever, you are at their mercy, and they have none. And in my order there were backordered parts I'm still waiting for and just wrong parts that they never answer me about. I get an e-mail one dat that sean will be calling, he never does. Its NONE of my business if you or anyone else wants to order from them I know, but don't say you weren't warned!!!

Helihobby

Hey guys,
I understand that LMH has problems but let me give you an example of what I ran into... I sent and email to Helihobby explaning that I did not receive the motor pinion gear, bushing and mounting screws. Their response came from Sean, They don't ship the pinion grea and hardware with the brushless kit, which I purchesed, " we now have modified the site to state this." I went to the site and sure enough there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the brushless kit claiming the pinion gear is not included and will be extra. This was not there when I placed the order, and Sean acknowledged this. His response was to contact LMH and they will sell you one. He would have sent one but had none in stock and can't tell when they will come in.
The same with the Deans antenna. If they had made all this clear, do you think I would have paid over $600.00 for a kit that comes incomplete?
I would have placed the order with a vendor who would have helped me order the correct parts.
The price would not have mattered as much as receiving a complete kit.

Hi JuJu,

I buy my heli and radio equipment from Heliproz via phone order. Most of the local hobby shops don't have what I want in stock anyway, and I'd have to wait for them to get something, which they never seem to dao anyway. I can pick up the phone and order from Heliproz and get what I want in a week for less money, no tax and no shipping on orders over $100. Can't beat that, plus the hobby shops always have a story they don't deal with this manufacturer or can't get that part, so I gave up. I like the Raptor heli's but the locals on Long Island don't deal with them, mostly they stock Hirobo. Even if one of them would order a part for you, there is NO stock and the wait is longer then Heliproz.
If you'd like to check out a hobby shop to browse for the hell of it, Willis Hobbies in Mineola have the best prices if they happen to have what you are looking for, they have a limited website but you can get their phone number if you want to call ahead.

A new RC buyer's perspective

Although I am new to aero rc and looking to purchase a rc heli. I have bought many different products from a variety of online retailers. I read with interest HiroboEric's reply to issue brought out on this subject. I must ask if internet sales function for a large variety of retailers that face the same issues you mentioned then why is'nt it working for you. I have a few guesses and for what it's worth here's my 2 cents. Service is key to maintaining your business. Lack of communication stinks and is deadly to business. It sounds by the number of calls and e-mails that you have exposure but if you don't comunicate with your customers then sooner or later you are going to have a large list of unhappy people posting info on how poor your service is. I have looked at HeliHobbies great looking site a great deal and considered getting my heli and needed items from that site, but reading you responses and the complaints has convinced me otherwise. Anyone would be ill advised to buy from it unless they could personally go to the shop. You are probably saying "What does he know ?". Well like I said by your response and the complaints I've decided to "window shop only" at HeliHobby and the other sites mentioned. How many others have made that decision.I hope you can resolve your problems.
