Has anyone had any problems getting their transmitter on checked luggage? I was not going to chance it, so I shipped my helis via 2 day USPS but I have a charger and two tx's that need to come with me.

I'm really not worried about damage (tx's) because they are in a hard foam case with clothes all around and are packed pretty well.

TX/Luggage?

In light of the recent sad events I would be prepared to explain just what is in there when asked.

Take it onboard as "carry on". Security will make you open the case and turn on the Tx to show that it works. Same procedure as for a lap top.

Carry on your TX

I agree with Blair. I've made two trips with my helis since 9/11 and haven't ha dany problems. You may be asked to open the case and explain its contents but nothing serious. In the past I have simply explained that it is a transmitter for a "toy" helicopter. I'm flying out to Phoenix on Thursday and I plan to carry my TX on board with me.

Hope this helps,

Darrell

Put mine in with the heli...

Never had a problem flew from Seattle to Las Vegas and back.
I would avoid taking it on as a carry on. You are not supposed to have any kind of transmitting device in the cabin. They let cell phones slide because it would be too hard to control, but a tx might not go. I know each airline and airport is different though.
Built a nice hardsided suitcase to hold my Sceadu and all the flight gear. Didn't have a bit of problem and it all arrived safe and sound.

I have no knowledge of rules or anything, but I do have friends who load luggage and I would not put anything, like my transmitter in my checked bags! They beat the Heck out of your luggage. I've even personnaly seen them drop a bag about 12 feet onto the tarmac and not even care about it. I have carried mine in my carry on and never had any problems yet. Phone your airport is probably the best thing you can do. They will tell you what to do.

Well I sent both my Sceadu 50 and the entire field gear needed to Las Vegas and back without a scratch on either. I built my case out of an old hardsided suitcase and some foam for padding. Just like Curtis's golf cases. How many times have you seen someone just blindly throw their over sized carryon into the bin or kick a bag under the seat. Lot's of ways to get broken either route. I prefer to pack it in a hard case with lot's of foam plus I don't have to hassle with it during security.
Besides if they break it they bought it! Great way to get a new tx or heli since the airline IS responsible for damage. Just inspect your bag well when you pick it up. If it has ANY signs of damage report it immediately.
My wife works for the airlines and had to deal with this for awhile during her career.

One of the good things about being poor, I don't have to worry about how to get my helicopters across the country Heck I can't even afford to get my-self out of the state.
