Hell, I showed up here to my local club and I decided in 30 seconds I didnt want to put up with the BS and PAY a few hundred bucks a year just to maybe find the time to fly there twice a month... Screw it... I fly illegal as hell, where ever I want and only at areas I DEEM SAFE.... and I am happier and richer because of it.

It's the same all around the world.
It wasn't as bad in Germany but I think that this was more of an issue of time as in the 70's people still seemed to be more tolerant of individuals different personalities.
You also had a more democratic society with less people trying to force there opinions onto others.
I am a club member more for insurance purposes then the social aspect of it as there are too many screwballs around now

there wasn't any decent clubs around where I live so I got together with the local model shop and opened a club at the local rugby club. We've only been going for about 3 months, with only about 15 members so luckily the politics rubbish has kicked in yet, but I know it will sooner or later. We only charge £17 to become a member of the rugby club and £23 insurance so £40 ain't that much to pay.

What does it cost elsewhere to fly around the world?

Drunk Monk Here are a couple of suggestions to keep it the way you have the club at the moment.

Have everybody do Safety Inspector duties for half a day and rotate it through every member. It just helps to stop anybody getting a bit too wild in unsafe flying.

Choose your members wisely !!!!!
Screw the discrimination bull@&*&

I have seen it too often where one or two members have destroyed a club due to their single minded opinions which they try to force onto others.

Let Newcomers fly for as long as it takes in the club without having to become a member until you as a group can make a decision if that person fits in or not.
If he/she doesn't then take the hard step and tell them NO.
It might sound bad but it will insure the longterm future for the club.

I have found that if you are friendly and willing to help people it doesn't matter where I go to fly, each club is a good place to go...

My motto is this..Fly...Rebuild...Fly

I guess I just got lucky with my "club" Central Florida Sport Flyers in Sanford, FL. No meetings, no politics, no BS, just fly. Other than frequency control, and don't cross over the flight lines and pits the rules are "loosely interpreted".

1.) Just dont hurt anybody.
2.) You crash it you buy it.
3.) No fault mid-airs.

Aern't all clubs like this?

I'll bear all that in mind, what do you mean by saftey duties?

The only thing that we do ask for our club is that everyone buy a different set of crystals, so nobody clashes. The local model shop must have got a discount on channel 64 crystals and there were about 4 new people with the same channel, luckily there weren't any problems. But with 35 channels to choose from and only 15 members at the mo, i can't see a problem.

The other good thing is NO MEETINGS, can't see the point, drive to the field, fly, refuel, fly some more, watch out for rugby posts, wait for the adrenaline to dop a little and go home.
