Doesn anyone know of a better book than this? I still have it from my undergrad schooling but quite frankly this is one of the worst books I have ever tried to learn from. Not that it isn't chock full of valuable information, it is just that getting anything remotely usefull out of it is extreemly difficult due to randomly dropping or skipping steps in the examples, and not having a good place in the book to look up the terms, notations, appreviations, etc. that he uses. Could possibly be that I am spoiled by the wonderfully written thermal and fluid flow books that I spend most of my time in.

thanks

what is doubly frightening is that my prof's said it was the best one they had found!

If I may ask....What kind of book is this you guys are talking about? Sounds interresting! I understand a little by the headline, but not quite all...

Anyone want to update me? Would be appreciated...

it is one of the general all encompassing machine design bibles... covers stress, strain, fatigue life, static load limit, ten zillion other key terms... design of gears, bolts, fastners, wields, solder joints, brazed joints, removable parts, fixed parts, etc.
