man, what a pain, my sister just got a cell phone, then her first bill... for 300$! so upon further inspection of the bill it appears that Tri-cities was roaming for her, when she specifically told the AT&T people when she signed up that Tri-Cities and Seattle needed to be her two non-roaming areas, other than that she didn't care. So after fighting with them and getting no where for an hour, she asks to speak to a supervisor, and low and behold, the AT&T person refuses!. Holy crap man, this is rediculous, pisses me off, and I am not the one with the 300$ bill. Nothing has been resolved yet, she is still trying to figure out how to get it resolved.

Any hints at helping get it resolved would be appreciated, I will pass them on to her.

ahh, venting over, feeling better.

Hope it wasn't NEXTEL..

Ray,
They are worse right now! All the cell phone companies have gotten a bad customer service attitude as of late. I think they need a good revolt in the market to calm them down a bit.
My NEXTEL is going south in 3 days!

Verizon seems to be the only company with half a clue in our area as of late. Of course they are a bit on the sneaky side also I hear. Had a couple minor horror stories from friends about them.
I have a buddy that works for Vodaphone in Japan who actually owns 51% of Verizon (the company not him. ) and he tells me big things are coming Verizon's way in the future.
Course that is what I thought about NEXTEL back in '98 when I put our business on with them.

Don't pay the bill, dispute the charges, file a complain with FCC and write them (ATT/FCC) letters. They've also screwed me once. When my contract expired, they put me in the lowest time plan without telling me. I found out when they charge $180 into my account and the only way to get that wipe off is to sign another year contract. Bastard. I've found out that they lied and suppose to maintain my original plan after the contract expires. Anyway, be careful with AT/T. The setup is not local eventhough when they say so. Get it in writing.
Good luck.

AVOID AT&T AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

thats my motto. Serveal years ago they tried to scam more than $600.00 out of me. A bill came in with many international calls on it. The claimed the calls originated from my home. It took 3 years to get rid of these charges.

During the "investigestion" period I learned that AT&T was using this technique to recover lost monies. Several subscribers in my area recieved simular bills. The bottom line...

AT&T was attempting to rob me blind. Just as a mugger would do on the street. This is my experiance alone. I have not contacted any other subscribers to verify their experiances.

Oh, I recieved this information from a telecommunications employee.

Sprint's customer service and reception are terrible as well. Got tired of the dropped calls!

Go with Cingular if it's available in your area - It's the best service I've ever had.

she only used it from home, she used less than 200 minutes up. the problem was that the roaming rates are rediculous.

but it's all been fixed. Finally.

my advice, buy 1 share of AT&t, and file a complaint as a shereholder to the SCC then the complaint actually has to be brought up durring one of their board meetings and directly addressed !! I have done this with other companies (non telco) and it works

I agree with that bumper sticker....but I work on call, that f-cking phone is my job.

I've been using AT&T wireless on this side of the hill Greg since February, no problems with roaming....could be your area. I hear that the digital deal on the other side isnt through AT&T yet. that might be why you are getting charged for roaming, but doesnt sound right.

WOjtek's idea is pretty dang smart, might try that while your sister still has her contract with AT&T, meantime start up with someone else and not use the AT&T phone (let the AT&T contract expire because its cheaper than backing out early, they'll charge about 300.00 for that too!)

I recently went through something similar, although not as extreme with AT&T. Because I'm still under contract for another 6 months ($175 to get out of an AT&T contract early), I told them that because the service in my area was terrible, I would no longer use the phone. They dropped me down to a plan that's only $19.99 for the remainder of my contract and I bought a Sprint PCS phone. I've noticed recently a huge downhill slide in all cellular providers overall, but Sprint PCS has that cool gimmick phone with a camera, so I figured 'what the heck!' I'm actually getting MUCH better service with Sprint on the phone (I live in the boonies), and the service I pay for has cool features like nationwide long-distance, unlimited night/weekends, and unlimited web browsing. Can't go wrong with all that (at least in my walnut of a mind ).

While were on the cell kick hehe

I was with Alltel Nationwide and the only place I couldn't get a signal was where the government told them they couldn't have coverage (as well as ALL the other services).

My wife was with sprint but her phone died and couldn't be replaced with out buying a different model. So we cancled her 3 year old plan and I switch to sprint PCS with 3 of the new Sanyo 8100 phones for myself the BOSS (wife) and one for the kids when we want them to use it.
So, with 2000 anytime nationwide minutes, Nights & Weekends free, and (Here's the kicker) free PCS to PCS calling Nationwide. Other than laying out for the phones at 50% off I'm saving $40 a month over all other packages we had. The service has been great.

WOjtek's idea about buying a share sounds like the only way to make them take notice with the individule.
I figure you'ed get treated right since there are so many others they can screw and not get any flack from it.
