Hi All

I am a beginner and I want to purchase my first heli

Here is my question

1. Raptor 30 à Heard that is not one of the best machines many troubles

2. Baron 30 à better than the raptor easier to assemble

3. Hirobo Sceadu 30 à pretty much the same as the baron

Which one do you think I should get can you help me out here

Thank you

Well...

For sure do not buy the Baron! The only reason not to get it is that the manufacture of it is HPI and they are in real question weather they are going to support parts for it. Baron parts are very difficult to get right now.

Raptor, yes it has issues I owned one, it was ok. But I like the Sceadu better. I had several problems with my Raptor all of which everyone complains about, broken clutch, broken boom supports, and broken front frame on hard landings. BUT parts are everywhere so it was never that big of a deal.

The Sceadu is a good machine new to the market, parts won't be a problem for a time to come. This is the one I would buy. I own a 50 already and look forward to replacing my Shuttle SXX with a Sceadu 30. BTW, the price difference between the Raptor and Sceadu is justified by the quality of parts and a muffler comes with the Sceadu.

These are PURE and SIMPLE my opinions on what I would buy given the choices you mentioned. Good luck and welcome to the hobby!

I have both and I love the Sceadu but I still think the Raptor is the better deal.

Beginner : Dead Stick

Hi All,
I'm new in Helicopter but has flown fixed wing for two years. In next couple months I have a plan to buy Helicopter, but I have a question to all of you, is there anybody has dead stick's experience when flying helicopter ? For fixed wing, dead stick is not really a problem as long as you can glide aircraft and land safely.

Thanks

Also look at Century's Hawk IV or Hawk SE. Here's a discussion on the hawk

http://www.runryder.com/showtopic.h...ght=newbie+hawk

They are less expensive ($219 with muffler - heck I got one for $219 with gyro too!) than the rap but better quality (my opinion comparing parts - don't want to start a war )

Also look at ratings at rchelicopters.org.

This topic also has a nice comparison between shuttle plus and hawk - if you stick to the objective posts

http://www.runryder.com/showtopic.h...uttle+plus+hawk

If you have any questions about the Hawk or other century choppers post in the Century forum, you'll get a quick reply.

Here's a thread started by a guy looking for a 50 size ship...

http://www.runryder.com/showtopic.h...ighlight=falcon

For $399 it is about the same price as some 30 kits and includes all BB and very nice blades. Can be powered by os50 or os46 (which now costs the same as 32).

Yeah, deadsticking a heli is called an "autorotation".

Hi Christian, It's difficult to be completely objective when answering this question as emotion is such a part of the hobby. The previous posts on this string are good. I like the Raptor because it's inexpensive to buy and VERY inexpensive to rebuild. Parts are EVERYWHERE! The Raptor can have problems though. Here's a quick list of problems that MAY be encountered, and have been encountered on my Raptor 30: way out of track main blades (woof & poof). Solution, reverse components of rotor head (what once lagged, now leads in the rotation. Two: engine increases RPM, then decreases RPM in quick succession (wa was!). Solution, install slipper clutch or split gear spur (main gear). Three: clutch shoe breaks at the flex point. Solution, replace stock shoe with one made from spring steel. These are the main, well known problems, and I have experienced them all, but have fixed them with the above solutions. I don't have experience with the Sceadu, but have read good things. I'll stick with the Raptor for now, and will be upgrading it to the 50 in a couple weeks. Good luck with the hobby, it's a great one! Best, Dave
