Regarding the safety of Halon

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, "the most effective fire
extinguishers use halon gas..."

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl648/dl648pt10.htm

I also found out that halon doesn't "remove oxygen from the air" it...

This company recycles halon and sells it in new extinguishers.

Halon interrupts the chemical reaction in combustion. It will work in an engine compartment of a vehicle very well because it is mostly enclosed. It also works on almost all fire types except metals. It does not work well in open areas however since there is no way to contain the halon.

Imagine if heli's had parts made out of magnesium? It would seriously put a damper on how we would put out fires. Magnesium reacts to water so, when it when it burns, adding water to it really makes a big fire. You would need an expensive Class D extinguisher. Remember, things could always be worse. I'm a firefighter too and seen many people ctinge at a car fire (especially if it's a classic car) when someone take a dry chemical extinguisher to the engine compartment. Dry Chem is not good for carburators.

Charging LiPO Batteries is like playing with Plutonium! One false move and it's a nuclear meltdown!
