Hey, I was wondering if I can place my stock Century gyro on the left side of the heli under the main rotor like the new setup on parkguy's website or do I have to place it on the front or back like the manual says? Thanks!

You can place it anywhere you like as long as its orientation is correct. However its best to place it as close to he main shaft as possible as it enables you to increase the gain a bit more (in theory)

I clearly remember Curtis Youngblood saying that putting a gyro near the main shaft could be a mistake because the gyro needs a stable and vibration-free spot to do its job, and that in his opinion that describes no location near the main shaft. He even said he's seen problems from vibration due to being placed near the main shaft before.
Just sayin'.

I would imagine vibration will be far less of an issue on a micro compared to the type of monster power 60 nitro heli Curtis might fly. I use CSM gyro rape and have had no problems, to date I doubt infact you would really notice any difference where the gyro was placed on a micro, my opinion is just based on my personal theory.

gyro?

I'm a newbie to helis so correct me if I'm wrong but isnt the gyro best postioned as far away from the centre point of rotation (the main shaft) as possible, so that it senses the heli rotating sooner?

The gyro senses rotation, so it really shouldn't matter how far away from main shaft it is placed. If the heli rotates 10 degrees, the gyro will rotate 10 degrees whether it is right at the main shaft, or all the way out on the tail boom.

For starters, I have placed the gyro both behind ( just under the tail boom) and now I have placed it only 0.5cm away from the main shaft.... Both are good postions.... Although I can't tell which was better They both did what they were supposed to do after I got the trimming and mix correct... But I feel that placing the gyro near the main shaft is very cool!!!! Regarding Vibes.... I cured the bird of vibes when I got the blades in track with me pitch adjustors...

gyro

If your going to use the standard century Gyro then putting it on the front or the back is good I have flown it on mine both ways and it works great either way, when I moved up to the heading hold gyro I put it on the side as close as I could to the main shaft and it works great there you can see the pictures in my gallery of my setup.. Im going to post more pictures of both setups to help anyone but it doesnt matter which way you go the big thing is setting your trim up right..
