Bergen R/C Helicopters > Bergen Collective complicated.......

Hi,

I saw on an heli-meeting some Bergen helicopters. I was suprised by the complicated way of doing the collective pitch. Servo's rocking up and down, many bellcranks and levers. The difficult way of doing? Or is there some reason for using this method?
Does anyone have experiece?

Well,
Yes its more complex, and more money, but...
.
There are no interactions like you have with a CCPM system or many other conventional designs, Every control is closed loop push/pull. In my opinion after 4 different systems, there is none better. Fly a reps at the next funfly and judge for yourself. You will be a believer.

I've always considered the Bergen collective system the best on the market for several reasons. As mentioned above, there is ABSOLUTELY no interactions. If you lost half of your linkages, it would still fly just fine (redundancy). And in all actuality, it is the most staight forward sesible design there is. I've always thought it was beautifully designed and executed compared to all of the other mechanical systems out there I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. The geometry makes perfect sense. There is a reason that the Raptor is so successful, can you say "Bergen control system"?

Bergen Collective System;

I own a "Twin", 3- Observers and an Intrepid, Bergen is all I fly, one reason being, are the mechanics of Larrys machines!

Good reasons

It's just like the Raptor system, only with less slop and without quite so many single points of failure. Every link in the Bergen system has a 'sister link.' If one fails, the other is still there. With two links, you can tighten them against each other just a tiny bit, to get all the slop out. There's no question in my mind that it's the best mechanical mixing system. It's half the reason I went with Bergen for my last heli (the other half being the Futura-style sideframes on the 3D).
