Today I turned the main drive gear on my Hbird into a cooling fan.
I used 1/16 balsa but you could use plastic or carbon. I cut 8 squares 1/2 by 1/2 inch. These are the blades. I then used the shape of the gear "Spokes" as a guide for the blades. I put a drop of CA on one spoke, then carefully positioned the blade on it. You want to put it so the spoke is on the backside of the blade and so that the spoke is near to the leading edge of the blade. The spokes themselves have a T shaped cross section. When you glue a blade to a spoke it automaticly sets a good 45 degree angle on it. 7 more of em and your done. It looks like a turbine. My motor has a heat sink on it and I think that this "Fan" may draw a little more airflow past the motor. It definatly looks cooler. I may fabricate a DUCT that will surround the gear and the motor to further improve the cooling airflow. I will keep you posted.

I guess
I never had a nitro heli. I do know these electrics need cooling airflow for anykind of longevity.

well take the raptor 30 for example. it has a cooling fan that is in-line with the main shaft, thus direct power input to the fan. the fan is in a confined duct that leads to the heat sink of the engine. a few view and photo from nitro diagrams shld help i guess
