| Put my second tank through my Raptor this evening... I have to learn the use of the throttle. I was varying my hovering height. On two occasions while bringing the Heli back down, I added throttle too late/not enough and kind of spring loaded the Rotopod.
On the second time, one of the legs came off the Rotopod...still had 4 good ones. I was hovering in a parking lot, I flew forward to be over the grass thinking it might be a little less damaging if it goes in.
I sat it down and continued to "fly" the controls to keep it from tipping and then cut the engine. The Heli tilted to the side without the leg and the bladed continued to spin with a couple of inches to spare.
My nerves still have not settled down and that was a couple of hours ago. I was/am borrowing a friends Rotopod and after the Heli was alright I was worried about the Rotopod. I like the design of the Rotopod; however, I currently have a 240sx that my Raptor 60 just fits in the passenger seat and I KNOW the Rotopod will not fit.
I am looking at a PVC hoola hoop design, but I am not sure if it will be stong enough for 60 size. I am definitely not going to push the up./ down as much. I mainly need "training" gear to help with the actual landing. I can basically hover an entire 550 tank of fuel, except to set it down and wipe the seat of my hands.
What do you guys think? Will a Hoola Hoop gear work? Strong enough? With any luck I will not need the training gear for a long time. I am looking at purchasing a truck to support my new hobby (; RC Helicopters |
