Makiedog Senior Heliman Location: Minneapolis
| I have both...the Bergen Gasser (G23, shaft drive) and the Benzin Trainer (G23). They both fly well.
Bergen:
Very high part count compared to Vario. Perhaps 25-30% more parts. Machined metal parts everywhere. Harder to build, but your patience will be rewarded by a precision machine with no control interaction, and no slop. I think the new ones come with fiberglass canopy but mine was Lexan, kind of cheezy for an expensive heli. G-10 frames. No main blades.
Vario:
Lowest part count gasser on the market. Very simple design, easy to build. Many plastic parts, including the head. Perfectly suited for scale application with the adjustable tail output height. CCPM. You have to build wooden servo tray, which is so 1980s. Comes with FB main & tail blades. Long tail and support assembly not as stiff as Bergen. Vario's version of the Zenoah engine is A LOT easier to pull and starts easier.
