Does anyone know if Intuitive Circuit's GPS-OSD with altitude displays feet or meters? I'm getting some conflicting information from the company and would be great if someone on here could validate some of this. Also, what is the maximum altitude the GPS-OSD can display?

Thanks a million!

I think most GPS's output meters(NMEA standard?), so the OSD would have to convert. Some consumer GPS's are limited in either max.altitude or speed to prevent their use as guidance systems.

John,

You have these http://www.icircuits.com/osd-gps2.htm?

Feet! That's great to know. I was just about to start writing a conversion chart. Just kidding.

Thanks John!

Conversion

The conversion is pretty simple thou.... Just take the number in meters times 3. Not 100% precise, but a very close rule of thumb.

I grew up using metric and had to change to using inches and feet. You guys have no idea how complicated to US system is compared to metric

over lay question

The over lay looks great, but was wondering how this effects taking a pic or video. Can this layer be turned off for a pic and or is it only data sent to camera person and not mixed in the the video etc.

I am working on an onboard computer which uses the OSD232 overlay board, a Garmin GPS, and my own design PIC microcontroller board and software.

I hope to have some screen shots up soon. (like next week or so)

As far as the accuracy goes, that depends on your GPS. Garmin has a nice little PDF on their site which gives all the specs on the GPS 35 series.

The Garmin GPS 35LVC has raw output in meters and knots, but you can convert that to feet, mph if you want with external electronics. If Intuitive converts that I don't know. I'm sure they can.

A far as the overlay video goes, you overlay that on your downlink video channel which is usually VIDEO OUT from the camera. This means that the camera takes photos WITHOUT the overlay data.

You can record your downlinked video and all the overlay information on the ground. And yes you can switch off the overlay on some systems.

test ship

Here are a couple shots of my test vehicle with the onboard computer system, camera, tx, and battery. The GPS is not yet mounted.

System weight is 1lb, 5 oz without GPS, 1lb,9oz with GPS..measured.

The little hawk flies fine with this load. I am currently test flying this prototype and working on software.

I hope to have some info up soon at www.seaviper.com. That is if my day job ever lets me have the time to do it.
