It's a great machine

Everything I have ever read about it says it's a fine machine. One minor thing, most folks think it's a tad underpowered. But the machine is designed for one thing FAI and it does that very well.

According to my readings you should be able to build her with no problems. Unfortunatly I can't offer much more help than positive re-enforcement.

I've wanted one for some time too. I just want a version that will take a 50 size engine.

RG Shuttle

Thank you for your comments, I have it almost built and as far as I know all you have to do is change the motor mount to fit a 50 size engine. Again thanks I hope it will do better than my ZXX????

More than that.

The way I understand it is that to put a 50 into that machine you will need the GPH engine mount and clutch assy up to through the clutch bell and pinon gear. Then those need major modifications.

Let me know how you do it. I might just have to follow suit.

More than that

Well that sounds like a lot of work, I think I'll try it with the 0S32SH for now. I would like to be able to put an OS 50 in it, But it sounds like more then I'm willing to do at this time, Not to mention the $$$ Thanks again.

RG

I have had a RG for a little less than a year already. That's why the Sceadu "bug" hasn't caught me since I know the RG is arguably the best 30 ever. Only the TSK mystar 30 comes close to it.

I still use my RG for practicing FAI hovering since it beats the Freya hands down. Hovering really wastes alot of fuel for a 60 and the RG really makes it affordable to stick with it.

As for flyout... dang... it's really fast too.... also a bit faster in FFF than my Freya with a OS61 since the RG is very rigid and responsive.

Actually, I am more hesistant to crash the RG than the Freya so I make it a point never to invert it and only stick to FAI since that is what the RG is meant to be... the ultimate 30 size FAI machine.

If you have questions... just ask. As for stuffing a 46 or 50 in the RG, forget it... won't work... the cooling fan won't cut it. If you want a rigid 46 size, you want a GPH, but it's a bit heavy so it's no great peformer.

Hirobo Shuttle RG

The Shuttle RG is without a doubt the best helicopter I have ever owned. Even with an OS 32SX-H it has plenty of power and speed.

RG 46 & 50

I have a 4th-hand RG that came fitted with a 46. It has the GPH fan & shroud - just trim the frames a bit to fit it in. It uses the stock clutch, the flywheel has been machined down a bit. Engine mount is two machined blocks like the Freya's. Looks like the crankshaft has been cut a bit. Stock boom, gear ratio & 55cm blades, will try the Sceadu 50 570mm ones. It flies great & is fast. However the 46 is very fickle to tune as most people know.

My mate installed a 50 in his RG. I'm not sure what mods he made, but they would be similar to the above. You could use the GPH engine mount but would have to drill holes lower down on the frame. Has 60cm blades & long boom - GPH. Stock gear ratio.

If you're after speed, why bother? Wouldn't a Sceadu 50 be faster as it's lighter? Then there is the RG[M] - all carbon with long boom.

I've heard that there was a craze in Japan to stuff 61's into 46/50 helis, namely the GPH etc. Anyone know more?

Update:

I'm close to selling my 2 RGs this weekend. I hope they have a good home. I am actually auditioning the buyers since the last thing I want is for the RGs is some newbie buying it and regretting it later on since they can't even do fast circuits and dork it after just a couple of flying weekends.

I took a long hard look at upgrading them to 46s or 50s but I want reliability and am not eager to experiment.

A good replacement for these high-end machines (for me) would probably be the JR Voyager 50 IMZ. It has 4 stack frames in CF, split gear constant driven tail (like the Freya), Fiberglass canopy and best of all, PUSH-PULL eCCPM controls like the Vigor CS. After experiencing the IMZ50s for quite awhile, I'm sure this one will be a gem of a machine.
