Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Another Nexus question.. about rotor blades

I know the Nexus has 530mm blades stock.. anyone use 550mm carbon blades?? If I tried.. would that totally screw up my pitch curves and throttle curves, of which I do not fully understand how to set up correctly?? (I'm still flying my used heli that came set up with the radio pre-programmed)

It does not look like the mains and the tail rotor will touch or even get too close if I put 550's on it.. so I was not sure. I'm being cheap and trying not to buy 530 blades since I already have several 550's now.
Any good books or sources to read up on properly setting up curves??

Thanks!

If you make sure they are tight you should be fine. Try to land as lightly as possible.

I set up some Helimax 550 (FRP's) on my Concept 46 VR (which uses 535's) ... they definitley looks close to the tail-rotor blades, but after some really hard maneuvers I concluded they where good enough since my heli came back down in 1 piece . Also, the VR has a flapping head as opposed to the Nexus therefore I guess you won't have any problems at all.

As tisrich already said, make sure they're really tight ... that will help in case of a hard landing! I did get to land hard a couple of times (during autorotation tests) and didn't encounter any problems either!

Cool.. Thanks!!! Do you think the size will mess up the pitch/throttle curves at all??

550

I put a set of CMT 550 Carbon blades on my Nexus acouple of weeks and from what I've been doing (not much, practicing for a F3C comp)
they seem to work fine.
No pitch adjustment needed just strap them on and track them in. Heaps of clearance between the main blades and the tail rotor and you will find the heli will also fly alot smoother.

Awesome!! Thanks.. I was hoping someone else already tried.. I'm new @ heli's.. and just not confident enough for the experimentations yet.. Thanks again for letting me know.

550's on the Nexuus...

I fly a Nexus Legato which has the full flapping head. I had a set of 550's on and while flying in a parking lot in gusty winds touched down slightly harder than normal, but not out of the range of an exceptable landing. The main rotor came into contact with the tail rotor and the main blades won. I had to replace a tail blade. I am waiting on a set of 530's and I am still flying on the 550's. Just making sure my landings are very gentle. If you don't have a full flapping head you will probably be o.k., but if you do don't use the 550's. It will be just a matter of time before a new set of tail blades.

550 blades

if you fly them get the longer tail boom before flying, it will help keep the main rottor out of the tail feathers. and will still work with 530 just fine
i fly 515 when i can get them.. higher head speed and touchie on the sticks. great for 3D some pitch changes yes . but minor

Nexus tail rotor

I was under the assumption that 550mm main blades could contact the tail rotor blades under extreme cyclic, although I have not tried it. I was planning on putting a Hawk IV tail boom on my Nexus with a torque tube to extend the tail rotor out farther and then run 550 blades. It looks like the Century Hawk boom and tail rotot setup is an exact nock off from the Nexus.

I was trying to figure out if I could somehow retro-fit the original Hawk wire drive (since is is cheaper than a torque tube), but they seem to be different. Also the brass tube and inserts for the Hawk will fit the Nexus wire drive, which is something else I was looking into since the Nexus wire drive sucks so bad. I would at least like to run a Nexus wire inside the Hawk tube and inserts down a stock Nexus boom.
