I like to know if any one you guys have used FMS simulator and find it usefull. I don't have a radio connecter/adapter so I used my keyboard and find it very slow and stable. It's nothing like my Dragonfly. I don't know if using radio makes any different or maybe just my PC is to old (Pentium 2 266MHZ). I am getting frustrated with my dragonfly. After messed up my first one now I am flying my secong dragonfly. I actually have quite a few years experience flying model planes including electric ones. But so far I don't think it help much.

I don't want to spend $200 on those True-Flite simulator. Spend too much on the hobby as it is.

I tried FMS, but it was way too easy, and not at all realistic. Here is a link to another free simulator that is much more realistic. http://www.preflightsim.com/
They say it will work on a 200mhz pentium, and I think it is more important to have a good video card with 3D acceleration.

If you practice with the MD500E on Preflight, it will help alot. I don't have a transmitter interface, so I used a Logitec rumble pad and it worked out just fine. It would be kind of tough with only a keyboard. With Preflight, you can set the simulation speed. In the training scenario, it defaults to 3x slower than normal speed so you can start out easy. Even at 3x slower, it was harder to fly than FMS. I found it helpful to practice at 0.5x which is twice normal speed.

You can buy yourself a fms interface.. pretty decent price , using your own transmitter to fly it.

To sim or not to sim

Well I get asked this one all the time, and here is my best responce sims are a great way to fly a bunch of different models, but nothing replaces real stick time I think learning how to fly a Radio controlled heli can only be done with hands on, there are little things that sims dont teach you like after every bad hoop straighten your blades, little things like that. I have sims and I used them to just have fun but I would tell the new pilot to visit the local hobby store and see if he can talk toa pilot or meet someone who can help him get started with real hands on experence.

one word of advice stay away form the guy who says, yeah I will show you how to fly your plane.

let him show you he can fly his own first, there are alot of guys out there that fly other peoples stuff, I know when I have tought people I let them watch me fly mine and then help them set up theres and then show them that theres will fly and then hand them there controll and let them learn..

sorry to ramble..

I like something to speed up my learning process.
