e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Head stiffener out of ball links

Here is my homemade head stiffener out of 2/56 ball links, I have not flown it yet, still waiting for my radio, but I can say it is a big improvement, it is way stiffer then without it. Go here to look at pics of it. they are large so you can see the detail.

Good idea, but fully threaded rod is weaker than just leave those unused area unthreaded would be more rigid less chances to break. just my 2¢

I believe he is commenting on the fact that the rod you have used between the 2 links is threaded from end to end. You can get rods which are only threaded on each end with the nmiddle left bare (unthreaded). I dont think you'd notice a huge differnce here as the setup is fairly short, however if you are concerned about strengh at all, using a rod in which only the ends are threaded would be stronger.
Great idea btw !!

Ok I see, ya I personally don't think it matters on such a short run, can you get rods that short that are only threaded on each end.

That was kinda my thoughts as well. It is short enough that I dont think you would notice much difference. But I think that was the point he was making. Im not sure if you can get rods that small w/o being entirely threaded, maybe a turnbuckle from an RC truck/car ?

How did you atatch the balls to the blade boltss ? Did you use some longer bolts and then they thread onto the ends (from the top) ?

the balls have threaded ends on them, I put those in from the top with a bit of CA glue, the use nuts and the stock washers on the bottom, I also use a bit of CA on the nuts so they would not back off, I am thinking it would be better now to get ball links, instead of having threaded ends, get the ones that you can put a bolt into from underneath.
