| We fly at our field behind small (3' tall X 6' long) snow fence barriers made of conduit. These are carry over from the plank guys, and do a good job of keeping the planks away from your feet and legs when turning toward the pits in case of a stuck throttle, dumb thumb, or battery loss. The helis take off and land at the same spot, but as soon as you are at head height, it is just you and the blade so to speak. After a lost blade on one of the members birds (lost one in a stall turn so the bird went straight in over the field) I got to thinking about a way to protect the pilots in case of a flying heli at head height.
I figure if each flight station had a pole of sorts behind the pilot (you could even lean on it in those "relaxing" heli situations... LOL) and there was a loose flying heli heading for you you could step behind the pole and at least be sure the heli (if headed for you) would strike the pole first and begin a chicken dance. Regardless of the heli flight direction you could easilly move your position around the pole to intercept the heli...
What do you think?
